Do you believe you know the difference between a puppy mill or a puppy farm, depending on what part of the world you live in, a puppy broker, a backyard breeder, or an ethical breeder? Do you believe you know the difference between all of those? So puppy farm or puppy mill is when a person or sometimes a corporation decides to breed dogs because they see an opportunity to make a lot of money. And good ethical breeders rarely make a lot of money. Some of them lose money on a litter. Now, there are a lot of breeders that do make a decent amount of money, but they put in a lot of hard work and really good breeders. Guess what you're getting? The experience of their knowledge and their decision-making on number one, the health clearances that they do. When I was a kid, my mom wanted to buy from a backyard breeder. Why does anyone want to buy from a backyard breeder? Because we didn't want to pay for papers if we weren't going to show the dog. That's all the lay person thought was different. You don't have to pay for papers. We're not going to register your dog, so you'll save money. That's not the only thing that's different. There's so much that goes into ethically breeding dogs. Number one, it's about raising and selecting very healthy dogs that are true to the breed themselves, what they've been bred to do. And then all of the investment of the clearances for the eyes and the x-raying the shoulders and the elbows. When you say, I'm going to go to a cheaper source for my puppy, then guess what happens? I promise you the difference between a puppy mill puppy, the price you pay, which sometimes they're a lot of money, the difference that you pay between that and an ethical, like the best ethical breeder, the difference that you pay, I promise you, you are going to make that up in the veterinarian bills that you are going to be paying when you buy from an unethical breeder. And I know that for a fact, because you are handed your puppy in a parking lot somewhere or at an airport somewhere. You don't ever get to visit the puppy with the mother. You don't ever get to see the puppy with the litter mates. And those people, most of the time, will follow up with a phone call within the first three weeks of you owning that puppy saying, oh, little Fluffy's litter mate really misses them and they really want them back. If we can educate the world that there is a difference between a puppy mill, a puppy broker, someone making money off the back of the puppy mills, keeping the puppy mills in business by

taking those puppies and selling them and making money there. So the puppy mills get some money because they, the conditions, a lot of these puppy mills, the conditions are horrific. They just breed their females over and over again until they either die or they get rid of them because they can't breed anymore. And then they sell those puppies to puppy brokers who sell them to unsuspecting people for a lot of money. They'll vaccinate the heck and deworm the heck out of those puppies before you get them because it's the, the, the likelihood of these puppies carrying all sorts of, uh, parasites and viruses are really high. So they want to make sure they can keep them alive till they can sell them to an unsuspecting person. There's no guarantees with any breeder. Dogs can get sick, but I promise you the guarantee goes way, way up when you buy from somebody who does, uh, invest their time because they want the puppies they produce to have an amazing life. That's what they're looking for. I have been doing a lot of research to find charities that we could get behind and I'm going to share with you the first two that we are going to be supporting in the efforts to shut down puppy mills. So the first one is Many Tears Rescue and Wales that does UK wide. I wanted to first help a UK based organization that was working to shut down puppy farms so that this would never happen again. Is there a world that we live in that this could never happen again, that somebody could produce so many litters in one year in such conditions? And in the USA, we're donating to Bailey O. Benji is really into education, really helping the world to open other eyes up to where they should be getting dogs from. Veterinary care is expensive. You want to minimize that by starting with the best healthiest puppy you can get and then feeding the best healthiest food you can afford. And then of course, engagement and enrichment for that dog. We are going to match donations to these two associations outside of any of the profits that we make from people joining our program. We want to stop puppy mills. We want to stop puppy brokers. We want puppies to be raised in a home where they're loved and engaged. It's such a sad thing that we have to be aware of, but wouldn't it be great if one day we didn't need to be aware of it?
