그렇다면 반려견이 보호자를 신뢰한다면, 두려움을 유발하는 자극이 있을 때 반려견이 무서워하지 않을까요? 글쎄요, 저를 MRI 기계 안에 넣는다면 저는 아티반을 찾을 거예요. 그렇게 요청하는 이유는 제가 아주 아주 좁은 공간에서 극도로 불편함을 느끼기 때문인데, MRI 기계는 매우 비좁거든요. 기계가 고장 나서 제가 죽을 거라고 생각해서가 아니에요. 그런 게 아니죠. 기술자를 신뢰하지 않아서 그 사람이 이상하고 기이한 짓을 해서 저를 영원히 그 안에 가둬버릴 거라고 생각하는 것도 아니에요. 전혀 이성적인 문제가 아니라는 거죠. 제가 왜 두려워할 필요가 없는지 아주 이성적인 수준에서 분명히 설명할 수는 있어요. 하지만 그건 아무런 상관이 없어요. 제 안의 무언가 때문이니까요. 물론 제가 요청했을 때 기술자가 저를 꺼내주지 않는다면 상황이 더 악화될 수는 있겠죠. 하지만 그렇다고 해서 제가 느끼는 본능적인 반응이 달라지지는 않아요. 그리고 그것은 두려움에 기반한 것이죠. 그러니 우리의 반려견이... 물론이죠.

And I can certainly explain on an absolutely rational level why I should not be afraid. And that has nothing to do with anything. It's something in me. Now, what I can say is the tech could make it worse by not taking me out if I asked. But that doesn't really change the visceral reaction I have. And that is fear-based. So to suggest that our dog...
