My name is Ed Frawley. A number of years ago, I don't remember how many years, getting awful old, but a number of years ago I went out to Michael Ellis's school in California when he was still running in school. He's since retired the school, but I went out to California and I filmed the video that you're going to see in this behavior creation online course. It's an excellent online course. There's a lot to it. It's 322 short videos. It's over 17 hours of video. We put this course together to help new dog trainers. If you're a competition dog trainer and you want to learn specific skills and the details on learning specific skills, this may not be the course that you want, but if you're a new dog trainer or if you've only had one or two dogs or if you have a dog that's an old dog and you're getting a new one and you have to start all over again and your old dog was perfect and your new dogs not quite perfect and they never are, they will be perfect. You will fall in love with them, but this is a course for you and our courses are not meant to be watched one time. They're meant to be watched ten times. Every time you watch it, take notes. Every time you watch one of these videos, you're going to see something that you miss the first time around. We don't make movies. I haven't made, I've done dog training courses for 42 years and for 42 years I've told people I'm not making a movie. I'm trying to teach you how to train your dog. And just think about this course with 322 videos to watch. If you want to learn how to train dogs and if you want to learn how to create behaviors in your dog and it's not limited it just come sit and stay. There's a lot a lot of information here and if you go down below in the description of this course you're going to see the outline. There's eight modules and many many many segments to each module. So it's a great course. It's not a course that was done in 2024, 2025, but you know what? Dog training is dog training. Good dog training is good dog training and bad dog training will always be bad dog training. But this, even though it was filmed many years ago, is still an excellent, excellent course. But the concept, the underlying concept and what I would hope you would you could take from this class is like, hey if I wanted to teach my dog to do something, right? What would be the steps? First I could just use food or a lure to get the dog to do the behavior. Whether it's sit up or lay down or roll over, I just practice messing with the actual physical action of trying to get the dog to do the thing I'm looking for. And then once

I've got the dog doing it, I put it on a cue. It could be a word, it could be a gesture. I could teach my dog when I go and raise a blink at him that he drops dead, right? And you know, like you can do anything you want at that stage, right? So, but once you have the ability to get the dog to do the behavior, then you just install whatever trigger or cue you want for that behavior. And it's going to be the same across the board, regardless of what you want to teach the dog. And the more complex the behavior, the more you're going to have to break it down into pieces, right? So sitting and downing and putting your feet on the bucket and stuff are simple one action behaviors, right? Capturing them is relatively easy. If I wanted my dog to spin in circles and back up and stand up on its hind legs, there's a whole bunch of different behaviors. I'm going to have to isolate each of those, string them together, and then put them all in their cues. And it's going to take more time to break down a complex behavior like that so that we get it. But it's really, we're talking about the same mechanical tools in place to do all of those, right? So where there's not a lot of variation. Dog training, you're going to find, it doesn't have a whole host of variations. There's complexity in that there are emotional states for dogs, every dog's a little different, creating motivation and the mechanics and things like that take a lot of practice. But the concepts themselves are pretty consistent and pretty simple. They're really not super complicated. And so what I would hope is you would get out of here and say like, hmm, I want to teach my dog to turn off a light. So I could put a target on the wall and use food to lure my dog up to hit that target with his feet. Or I could start with the target low and then move it up, move it up, move it up until the dog's hitting that target on a cue from me. And then I could hit that target on a verbal cue. And then I can put that target around the light switch. And then I could take the target away and have the dog hit the light switch with his foot, right? And I could do that in little tiny pieces to the point where I could say, get the lights, and my dog would run over and go kick and hit the light switch if you wanted, right? So those are all, we're all doing the exact same thing we're doing here in class when we're teaching the dog a sit. It's all the exact same concepts. And you have to have the same communication system installed. And when you get to complex

behaviors like that, our reward markers are what allow us to pinpoint exact moments, right? So if I tried to teach that and I wasn't using a reward marker, that means I'd have to try to feed the dog exactly when their feet were hitting the thing. But if my dog does it, I can lure up there and when the dog jumps up to see what my hand's doing and their feet hit it, I can say, yes, bang. And then I can feed them back here, right? And because they understand the reward marker, they said, what was I doing? I was smacking my feet against the wall when that happened. So I can isolate right down to what they're doing with their foot, right? So I have friends that are really into teaching tricks, you know, they teach their dogs to cover their nose, like when you say stinky and go, and go, and cover their eyes like are you sad? And all kinds of crazy little things, spin and circle, stand up on their hind legs, jump up and down, back up, bow, you know, play dead, you know, all kinds of stuff like that. And it's exactly the same thing we're doing here. They just take the behaviors, they show the dog how to be lured and manipulated, they start with messing with those, they're very good at using a reward marker. Lots of them use clickers, but it doesn't make any difference. Same thing with your yes, yes is a clicker, right? It's just a different sound that predicts it so you can pinpoint right when the dogs are doing little things. And then you find a way to prompt the dog to start along that path, you mark and reward that, you get a little closer, a little closer, and you're building behavior that way. So as long as you have a dog that wants what you have, can be manipulated with lures and physical techniques like that, and understands our communication system, the reward marker, then the world is your oyster, you can teach them anything you want.
