my dogs, I need to be here. All right. Um, training, buying enrichment toys, training methods with kindness, land, boom, boom, boom, boom, being a recaller and handling 360. Ordered puppy bed and crates planning holidays. That includes dogs. Yeah. That's the thing for me. Um, the evolution of, of dog ownership. Oh, moving vets to find the right one. Oh, Hannah. That's a good one. Singapore is in the house. Hello. For me. Um, it's, you know how it's really exciting when you get a new dog, when you're on the cusp of getting a new dog. I always have heartbreak when I'm about to get a new puppy or a new dog because of the guilt I feel for my dogs that are here, because I know the puppy will get more attention than, than they like I'm, I'm taking some of my attention away from them. There's always a little bit of guilt. You got to get over that. Um, but that's just me. Okay. Researching different foods that have all natural ingredients. Brilliant one, Haley. I love that. Researching different foods that have all the time. I love that. Listen to feedback. Ah, Susie, you don't know how important that is. You do not know how important that is being open to receiving feedback, which some people, it gets easy to take feedback personally, daily massages, acupuncture for my 13 year old. Okay. I love all of these answers. I want to go back to one question that I can't remember who said it, but it was a lot of you ever alluded to it. And, um, it reminds me of this movie, my, one of my all time favorite movies and do not judge me because this is one of my all time favorite movies, but one of my all time favorite movies is as good as it gets. I could probably quote the entire movie to you because I've seen it so many times, things, but there's a line at the end. Um, well, no, not that line. I'm going to tell you another line that is kind of two thirds of the way through and, um, and, um, Jack Nicholas is in the movie and, uh, somebody helped me. What's her name? Hunt Helen Hunt. No, that's not her, her name is it? I digress. Anyway, I digress. She says to him, give me a compliment right now. And he goes into all how, how, how hard it is for him to improve. And he has to take these medic meds because he's got OCD and, and he's going on and on and on. Yeah. Jack Nicholas is the golfer. Jack Nicholson is the actor. He goes on and on and on about what he's doing. And she says, I failed to see how this is a compliment about me. And he said to her, you make me want to be a better man. And I think those of you who, who put, I, I want to grow and learn as a dog trainer. I want to

learn more about Susan Garrett's programs that, you know, are based in kindness that I think that is like an ultimate sign of love for our dogs is that Helen Hunt. That's right. That's right. That we love our dogs so much. We want to be the best version of ourselves for them. How can we be the best canine nutritionist and give them like the most amazing diet? How can we be like the, the ultimate dog trainer? And when I say dog trainer, that includes things like how you enrich your dog's lives, how much fitness you're giving them. And, and obviously the over overarching element of kindness. And I, I think that is, um, the, the, to, to me, that is the greatest sign of love. It's easy to make excuses. Oh, I don't learn well on, uh, on online classes or, um, I've, I've went through puppy class. How many of you were like this when I went to my first dog training class ever? Now keep in mind, um, I was raised as a teenager hanging out at confirmation dog shows and I watched the obedience ring and I always thought it was like mystical and magical unicorns. And I'm like, Oh my gosh, what kind of sorcery would you have to have control of to be able to get dogs to do that? I remember thinking those exact thoughts, the wonder, the bewilderment of getting, seeing dogs do like utility. And so I started reading books, how to raise and train your chow chow was the first dog training book I ever read because I desperately wanted a chow chow. And so I learned a lot of the wrong things. And I remember thinking when I decided to take my first ever dog training course, now I've been riding horses and I got weekly coaching in riding dressage and jumping, but I'd never taken a dog training course. And I thought I might as well take one. I'll have other dogs in my future. And once I take that one there, my education's done and I'll be able to just do what I want with dogs for the rest of my life. Oh, nay, nay. Oh, nay, nay. Once you open that like Pandora's box of, oh my gosh, there's so many choices and you get on the right track, you realize you want to surround yourself with like-minded people. You want to surround yourself with people who are trying to have this amazing life. And some people might be wanting to have amazing, outrageous success in dog sports. And you want to be surrounded by people who think and feel the same way about dogs. And that's where you know that it isn't a one and done thing when you take a, when you get an educational course in anything, right? In anything. So, you know, I realized

that I took a university, I got a university degree. I thought that was my education. And then what you learn is all that university does is teaches you how to learn. Marianne, welcome to Handling 360. So here's the thing that like, I'm, I constantly go back to people who don't train the way that I do, because I want it to be clear that if you are following what I do and you believe what I believe, we have to keep our hearts open to people who don't, because here's what I've learned. Think of somebody who is training with a shot collar or a prong collar or a chain collar and ask yourself, do you think they love their dogs less than what we love our dogs? Ask, asking that question. Do you think somebody who train, who trains with a, an electric collar, a pinch collar, a chain collar loves their dogs less than you and I love our dogs? Because on the outside, we would look at that and go, how could anybody, how could you do that to a dog that you loved? Right? And here's my hallucination is because not only do they love their dogs every, but as much as, as a bit, as much as we, I know of some people who train that way. And I believe they love their dogs more than I do. How would it be possible for anyone to love their dogs more than me? I mean, how could you measure it here? I have seen people when they like, uh, one woman who trained with electric collar and pinch collar and heavy corrections and new and, and, and, and when she was building a house, she had, um, like, uh, like this was a great idea. She had, um, like, like the little rain fire extinguisher, what are they called when, when the fire comes on the sprinkler system, right? They sprinkler system in and because if Kay, she was out and there was a fire that her dogs wouldn't die. And why do I say, I think these people probably love their dogs more than I do, because although I don't have children of my own, I absolutely love children. I love people. And so if I was in a burning building and I had to decide to take one of my own dogs and save their life or take somebody's child, and I could only pick one as much as I love my dogs, I would still put a human life above them. And I believe some of my friends who use a lot of force in their training, I don't, I don't know that they'd make that same decision. And so that's why I'm like, they love their dogs as much as me. However, what happens when they're training with a shock collar, a pinch collar, a prong or whatever is they believe that's them showing love. This is necessary for you

to have the best life ever. Now I have proven to myself and we've had, you know, tens of thousands of students go through our programs that have proven you can get outrageous results, just like anybody else on this planet is getting provided and train in the way that we train with kindness first, by creating a connection with the dog and then growing that connection and introducing clarity about what you want and so on. And so on, I just want to, you guys have followed me. So I have a challenge for you. I have a challenge for you to 24 hours, anything you do with your dog. And, and maybe tomorrow we'll talk about my evolution and dog training and how I started every bit, the same place as many of you. But I would like you to, anytime you talk to your dog or, or, or like you, if you scold your dog, I want you to say these words because I love you. And then ask yourself, does that make sense? I am doing this because I love you or by saying, cause I love you. Does that trigger you to say, was there something else I could do that you actually would buy into a little bit more because you love me and I love you? Like, could you be triggered? I'm going to share with you. Some of you have seen this, but I'm going to share with you this little video. This was like the week we got tater salad. And I said to Kim, his nails were so long. We've got to try and trim them. I don't know if any of you have been around a pug dog when you're trying to trim their nails. I don't know if pugs have extra nerve endings in their toenails, but they go cray cray when you try to just randomly trim their nails. Now in this video, you can say, oh, this isn't so bad. I didn't let it go so bad. This was probably the first week we've had tater. And all that I have is a spoon in my hand and I'm trying to touch his nails with a spoon. That's it. Just touch his nails with a spoon. Now check this out. Okay. So some of you may think, oh, that's, that's not bad. That's just touching them with a spoon. That was our before that was life. Um, you know, there was no way, no wonder his nails were like this long because I couldn't imagine anyone. He was powerful, strong. He flung his head around like a bowling ball would have been dangerous. Now I have no idea where Tater Saladin is in the house. I have done this once before in a video. So if this doesn't work, revert back to, um, a previous video. So I'm going to show the top of the stairs there that if Tater is around and he, he hears this, but I bet I'll get some dog react to this. Okay. You ready? I have no idea if he's around or where he is. Hey buddy. What have I got?

You want your nails done? You could pause up. Okay. Let me just take one of his nails, cut his nail. What do you think of that? What about this nail? What about that nail? You're such a good boy. Do you need a cookie for that? Were you sleeping? I put the magic recall cue on. All right. Is that enough? Do you want one more? Do you want one more? Come on then. Give me your pups. Can I have it? Is it difficult? Oh, now I got another one coming. Can I get my nails done too? You're a goober. You can get your nails done. All right. So whatever it is. Now I could have said, Oh, I have to muscle this dog because I love him. He has to get his nails cut and it's for his own good. Or you could say, when you say the words, because I love you, you've got to question, is there something that I could have been doing more cooperatively that my dog would not have been offended, that I wouldn't have had to overpower them. And that's the way I look at all dog training. And so I could show you any amount of, like name a dog training problem. Like that I can probably show, I don't, I've got a few videos on here. So would you like to see some more of those kind of examples where I'm, you know, the, that you've got a problem, it's frustrating you, you end up muscling the dog or overpowering them. And if I may, and I asked you to say, because I loved you after you're doing what you're doing, you might say, is there a better way? Is there a better way? Okay. Okay. I, I, uh, okay. Yes. Okay. Let me show you then. I'll show you one. This is, take a look at this. See if any of you resonate with this. Now, any of you have a dog who chases cats, wildlife, anything? That is. So that is Clara and Jesse. And Jesse was like obsessed with cats. Wild, like, like lunging, screaming, clawing. And the problem is Clara lives in Europe in a small town where they're, they're like overrun with cats. And so she had to, you know, she could say, I'm going to muscle you here because I love you. I'm going to say, no, you can't be chasing cats because I love you. But that is a life long sentence for you and the dog. You are constantly going to have to be muscling the dog or corralling them by cats for the rest of that dog's life. And how kind is that? How fair is that? Oh, he's a dog. He doesn't care. Oh, hell yeah. He does care. Okay. So let me just show you after Clara took Jesse through. Oh, that doesn't work. Oh, I see a cat. Now watch this one. I will ignore that cat. You can give me your toy. So that's what looking at your dog training problem

and coming up with a solution based on kindness looks like. It isn't saying I have to do it another way because I love you. It's saying no matter where we are, no matter what the challenge is, we can't. Yeah. It's the same dog. It's exactly the same dog. That would be a good. Do you want to see the four again? Let me show you the before so you can, I'll prove to you that it definitely was easy. So that's, that's, that's a dog who's crazed too. Has a lot of dogs have that instinct. I must chase animals. I must chase wildlife or cats or whatever other dogs, whatever kids on bicycles, several ways to approach any dog training problem. And when you say, because I love you, you're going to think, well, is that really what I would do to somebody I loved? Is that really what I would do? I'm going to show you one now. Um, that is not related to, um, to just being a family pet, but a lot of people come through our programs, say homeschool the dog. Then they go to recallers. Recallers is a year of coaching with us. That's kind of where you get the deep dive and you really get the understanding of how we, we work on the, the C train, what I call the street C train, right? Creating the connection, then growing clarity. And from the clarity, we build up that dog's confidence and how, and let them be an active participant in what it is we're doing. Then we can add complexity, but in the sport, in the sport and dog sports, people go for the sexy stuff. So I'm going to show you a couple of my, uh, students there befores and thereafter. So, um, Nat is in, uh, the, in Australia and man, did she ever have a challenge with biting and a lack of focus and it was complete overwhelmed. So let me just show you. Right? Like the, the dog has no clue what agility should look like. Oh, you're running. I must chase your feet kind of goes back to the prey instinct double the cat's moving. I must chase it. Right? You're running. I must chase your feet. Oh, I'm just going to go around this jump because it's easier and more fun to chase your, to chase your feet. Okay. Now this is. So agility is like a dance with your dog. And when the, the person who's leading, you know, in, in dancing, there's always a lead and there's somebody who just follows the lead. Well, in agility, the lead is the handler and the dog follows those handling cues. But when you're, there hasn't been that connection to begin with and you teach every obstacle with clarity that, and you know, as a handler, what the dance moves are, then it's going to be a cluster much like the first video I showed.

I'm going to show you one more. This is Angie. And when I met, when Angie came to me and said, I think I would like to join your handling 360 program. And I said, and Angie had already been on a world team. She already won the AKC nationals with a previous dog. And I said, Angie, the only way this is going to work is you, if you would be willing to adopt a beginner's mindset, I know you're experienced. I know you're successful in agility. If you would have dropped, adopted a beginner's mindset, then I know your dog will be brilliant. And I knew that because her dog was the same age as Swagger. So this video is probably five years old, but it's compelling. I want all of you to see promise in your dog. So she had been trialing this dog for three years and hadn't had a successful round yet. Hadn't had a successful round. All right. Never been able to make it to the AKC to qualify, to go to the AKC nationals because couldn't get enough double Q's. And this is what she looked like. So agility is, can be, remember the C train is connection, clarity, confidence, complexity. Agility is complexity. And what makes it even more complex is when you have a dog like Echo, who's fast. That makes it, cause you have to be, you know, theoretically fast on your feet to think. You don't have to be a fast runner. So that makes it easier, but take it from me. You don't have to be a fast runner. Now, this I'll just show you, Angie's after. So not only did Angie create clarity with Echo and was able to have, have, you know, clean runs. She went on to win the AKC nationals, not once, but twice with that dog. And then her dogs following are just brilliant. All right. So ask yourself that just for the 24 hour challenge, because I love you. And no matter what you're doing in the next 24 hours, if a dog frustrates you and you say, I need to yell at you because I love you. That's do you really do not think there's another way. I think there's another way. I know because we just have so many of our students, what we do is so different than what anybody else does. People don't understand that until they come into our program and they go, Oh, I get it. I get it. It's strategic. It's structured. And it isn't requiring you to be perfect in your timing. You know, brilliant timing is, is an element that helps make amazing dog trainers, but we've created a program that is based on games. So we understand that when people are first learning, they're not going to be perfect, but that's still got to create great results. How can I show my dog not to chase wildlife? Agatha says. So here's what we do, Agatha. We don't get

wrapped up on the knot. Don't. We don't get wrapped up on, don't jump on people. Don't get in the garbage. Don't get on the counter. What we get focused on is do. This is how I would like you to behave. And that's all Clara did with Jesse. If Jesse was off leash, no cat would be safe. And if she could have been saying, don't chase the cat. Don't look at the cat. Don't watch me. Watch me. There was none of that. It was none of that. It was about creating a world where the dog wants to do what you want. And, and there isn't, I can't tell you, oh, I've got this magic pixie dust and you just pour some of that on your dog and your dog is going to suddenly listen. It's about you committing and saying, I would love to have that kind of relationship and responsiveness from my dog. And so what's the first step, Susan? That's the question. What's the first step? The first step is recallers. And if recallers is too much of a commitment, then homeschool the dog. And, and if you're interested in dog agility, then handling 360. Okay. It's about approaching life from the world of do. Okay. Yeah. Crown looks fantastic. Angie's young dog looks fine. I saw that video too. Briefly.
