Why Basic Training Isn't Enough

why do you want your dog to be basic because look at it this way if you set the bar basic let's say you have basic and you have advanced so there's two levels right because what's underneath basic mediocre right nobody wants that so let's say you you put it on the basic level where you want to be there's two levels you choose basic that means if you're not even hitting because you you need skill also for whatever basic command you have in mind so whenever you're not even reaching that you're going into mediocrity you're going into actually sub basic so you have to elevate the bar a little bit higher especially for a puppy please you have to do more because doing more is more interesting for the dog cognitively to develop you have more challenges can use its energy more into the things that you present that you put to the table because you want basic doesn't mean your dog needs basic your dog always needs a little bit more than just basic you have to give it more purpose you have to give it more opportunities you have to give it more potential to grow and the only way to do that is actually by doing more exercises for example if you read my healing book you'll find out pretty quickly i've done 12 healing styles just for uh focus and contact means six by six right six in focus style six in contact mode why 12 styles you know why 12 styles isn't the one already hard enough well that's the thing if you want your dog to develop and it doesn't take more time because it's not like i'm training hours or six times or 12 times more than you on healing no i'm actually mixing it up mixing it up makes it really interesting for a dog makes it also fun for you makes it a challenge makes it like enjoyable to train dogs instead of always doing the basics because if you talk to me about basics there's only one thing i can think of which is sit down stay come and leave it out for example that these are the only basics i can think of and wouldn't you agree that four five six commands is not going to be enough for a dog as intelligent as a shepherd you're going to have to really do more and have to not because i'm telling you because you want to that's why we have a dog is to give them a little bit more purpose to believe in them and what they can do and they can do great things you know we have mvp students also with white shepherds doing really really nice things i i really enjoy that these dogs are enjoying it themselves and then you could see happy owners happy owners with happy dogs that's what this is about you know
