가끔 그래요 궁금한 게 있는데 뒤쪽 왼편에 있는 거 개들을 위한 상자인가요 아니면 네 맞아요 맞아요 켄넬이에요 네 맞아요 맞아요 켄넬이에요 여기서 주간 훈련을 했었는데 예전에는 철제 켄넬을 썼었어요 그런데 모든 개가 바닥을 쓰니까 정말 난장판이었죠 소음이 너무 심해서 직접 제작했어요 위쪽에는 구멍을 다 뚫어놔서 개들이 나오면 훈련하고 다시 들어가서 잠을 자요 그래서 켄넬이 10개 있어서 개 10마리를 수용할 수 있고 개가 있는지조차 모를 정도로 조용해요 그래서 들어가서 자고 개가 있는지조차 모를 정도로 조용해요 그래서 들어가서 자고 나와서 훈련하고 다시 들어가요 정말 최고예요 정말 좋아요 그렇군요 그럼 주간 훈련 때는 아침에 데려다주고 저녁에 다시 집으로 데려가나요 네 네 보통 7시 30분에서 5시 30분 사이에 있고 7시 30분부터 데려다줄 수 있어요 저희는 사실상 사설 클럽 같은 곳이라서 번호키로 알람을 끄고 고객들이 일찍 와야 하면 직접 들어와서 개를 넣어두고 화이트보드에 있는 켄넬 위에 개 이름을 적어둬요 픽업도 마찬가지예요 만약 좀 늦을 것 같으면 20분이나 30분 정도 늦을 것 같다고 하면 괜찮으니까 직접 와서 개를 데려가라고 하죠 그런 식이에요 아침에 데려다주고 나면 아침에 데려다주고 나면 그럼 네 훈련사들이 있어요 일대일 시간을 보내니까요, 당연히 아무나 다 들어오는 건 없어요, 여기서는 아무나 다 들어올 순 없어요 여전히 매일 오는 개들은 똑같아요 아니면 저희는 데이 트레이닝을 수요일과 금요일에만 진행해서요 음, 그리고 저희 운영 방식은 모든 게 멤버십제로 이루어져 있어요 그래서 주 1회 방문이나, 아니면 주 2회 방문 같은 방문 중 하나를 선택하시죠 음, 그런데 모든 1회 방문은 수요일에 있고, 주 2회 방문은 수요일과 금요일에 오는 식이에요 아니면 수요일뿐인가요? 아, 그렇군요 네, 저희가 데이 트레이닝으로 넘어가려고 준비 중이라 질문드린 거예요. 그래서 제가 아, 미안해요, 제가 아직 이쪽을 잘 잘 알지 못해서요, 생각을 좀 하고 있었거든요 잘 모르겠지만요 음, 좋은 점은 저희는 딱히 개들을 새로 받지는 않아요 왜냐하면 이건 일종의 데이케어 옵션에 가깝거든요. 그래서 보드 앤 트레인에 대한 저희만의 해답 같은 건 아니에요 따로 훈련 기준을 정해둔 건 없고요 그래서 저희는 주로 기존 고객들이 데이 트레이닝을 위해 맡기는 강아지들에게 집중해요 그러니까 이건 좀 더 음, 서비스의 가치를 더하거나 훈련의 단계를 높여서 저희가 유지 관리를 도울 수 있게 하는 거죠 새로운 개들을 받는 것과는 좀 달라요 주인이 저희 훈련 방식을 모르거나 개 다루는 법을 모르는 상태에서 저희가 개와 시간을 보낸 뒤에 집에 돌아가서 '왜 우리 개는 이걸 못 하지?'라고 생각하게 되는 것 그건 그냥
sometimes yeah so I'm just curious what's that in your background on your left side is it boxes for dogs or yes yes crates we did uh like day training here and we used to have wire crates but all the dogs using the floor it was it was chaos too much noise so I got them built and they got all all holes drilled through the top so Dogs come out they work they go back and they sleep so we've got 10 crates here we can have 10 dogs in and you wouldn't even know that we've got a dog in so they go in they sleep they come out for their for their work and then they go back so it's been awesome it's been awesome nice so for your day trains they come in in the morning and then they go back home at night yeah yeah so they're basically between 7 30 and 5 30 and they can get dropped off from 7 30. like we've we're pretty much like a private club here so I've got like coated doors the alarm turns off uh and you know if clients need to get here early they can come in let themselves in put it dug away they write their dog's name on on the Whiteboard on the crate um same with with pickup if like they're going to run late though hey we're going to be 20 minutes half an hour late yeah no worries help yourself pick up the dog all that sort of stuff so um once they get dropped off yeah once I get dropped up in the morning then uh yeah we got handlers that spend one-on-one time so obviously no free for all uh no free-for-all here it's still the same dogs come every day or no we only do our day training on Wednesdays and Fridays um and then the way that we're set up is like everything is done on membership here so you either do like a one one per week visit or a two-time uh like a twice per week visit um but all the single visits are on Wednesdays and then the double visits come on Fridays as well as Wednesdays no that's good yeah if we're getting ready to transition into a day train so that's why I'm asking yeah so it's like I'm sorry man I just you know you're not a Believer and I was thinking um it's good like we don't we don't really take on dogs uh because it's more like our daycare option right so it's not like a our answer to a board and train as such there's no real criteria that we train so we really mainly focus on existing clients that send their dogs here for the day training so it's a bit more of a um you know a value-add or another another layer to their training that we can we can help maintain um rather than just getting new dogs in that the owners don't know how we train or or how to handle a dog and then we're spending time with them then they're going home thinking well why can't I get my dog to do any of this stuff it's just

음, 물론 중요하죠 고객들이 개를 어떻게 다루어야 할지 교육받는 것만큼 중요한 건 없으니까요 그래도 다행인 건 좋은 반응을 많이 얻었다는 거예요 많은 분들이 저희를 찾아오셨거든요 교육을 받으러 오셨는데 이전에 다른 훈련사들에게 갔지만 별다른 성과를 보지 못한 분들이었어요 그게 훈련사의 역량 부족 때문인지 아니면 우리 모두 알다시피 특정 훈련 방식이 가진 한계 때문인지 몰라도 말이죠 어쨌든 어, 사람들이 개를 무분별한 자유 놀이식 데이케어에 맡겼다는 사실도 있죠 개들 중에는 그런 좀 더 강단이 있거나 그런 자유 방임식 시스템에 맞지 않는 아이들이 있어요 그런데 저희 센터에 와서 주중에 개를 맡길 곳을 찾으면서도 열 배 더 나은 결과를 보고 계세요 개들이 핸들러와 함께 제대로 된 생산적인 시간을 보내기 때문이죠 하루 종일 스무 마리의 개들과 함께 울타리에 갇혀 있는 것과는 다르니까요 그래서 확실히 사업적으로 갖추어 두면 좋은 부분입니다 좋네요 그런데 보드 앤 트레인도 하시지 않나요, 그렇죠? 그걸 하지 않으셨나요? 어, 예전에는 했었죠 보드 앤 트레인을요 그런데 지금은 마지막 배에서 나온 강아지를 직접 키우게 돼서 집에 더 이상 개들을 위한 케이지를 둘 공간이 없어요 그래서 보드 앤 트레인은 현재 중단된 상태입니다 아내와 저는 농장 생활을 할 수 있도록 열심히 넓은 땅을 알아보고 있어요 삶을, 그리고 넓은 부지로 이사를 가게 되면 보드 앤 트레인(위탁 훈련)을 시작할 거예요 보딩 다시 모든 걸, 그러니까 뭐 아시다시피 지금 교외에 살고 있어서 좀 제한이 있거든요. 맞아요, 그리고 제 이웃 중 한 명은 좀 아주 재수 없는 사람이라서 우리 구청에 민원을 엄청 많이 넣어요 음, 그래서 지난 12개월 정도를 구청에서 우리 집을 조사하는 데 보냈죠 그 사람이 민원을 서너 번이나 넣었거든요 음, 근데 조사 결과 아무런 문제 될 게 없다고 하더라고요. 위반 사항은 없는데 개는 더 이상 키울 수 없게 됐어요 지금 제 사유지에 개 네 마리가 있어서 그래요, 뭐 다시 시작할 겁니다 다시 다시 시작할 거예요, 그러니까 뭐 알겠습니다 좋아요, 이제 오늘 팟캐스트를 시작하면 될 것 같아요 여러분 참여해주셔서 감사합니다 음, 저는 도미닉이고 공동 진행자인 마이크와 함께합니다. 오늘 특별한 손님을 모셨는데 직접 자기소개를 해주시는 게 가장 좋을 것 같네요. 네, 아 제 이름은 다니엘이고요. 저는 남호주 애들레이드에서 왔습니다 음, 호주에서 아주 잘 알려진 주나 도시는 아니고요. 우리는 아래쪽에 있습니다. 호주 중앙 하단부에 위치해 있죠 호주 한가운데에 있는 곳인데, 저는 전문적인 애견 훈련사로 일한 지 이제 4년 정도 되었고요. 그전에는 취미로 했습니다 음 솔직히 취미로 했다는 건 그냥 관심이 있었다는 정도지, 어떤 독 스포츠를 전문적으로 하거나 그랬던 건 아닙니다 그런 거 전혀 없고 그냥 제 반려견들이죠 저는 첫 반려견을 키울 때부터 항상 관심이 많았어요
as important to um yeah obviously get the clients educated on on how to handle the dog as much as anything but it's good it's good we've had a lot of good response because a lot of people have come to us for training that have either been to other trainers that have not been very successful with their dogs um whether or not that's just from the skill of the trainer or you know as we all know the limits of certain ideologies um but also uh the the fact that people have had their dogs at free for all day cares and maybe they're a dog that has a little bit more substance and doesn't fit into that that that free-for-all type system they've been able to come here and still have that outlet for for their dog during the week and they see ten times more results because the dog's getting proper productive time spent with a Handler rather than just put in a pen with 20 other dogs for the day so definitely a good a good thing to have in your business nice but but you also do born trains right well don't you do that uh I was doing board and train um but at the moment I kept the puppy from my last leader so I got no room at my house to kennel anymore dogs um so boarding trains are currently off we are madly looking for some acreage me and my wife so we can go live the farm life and as soon as we get to acreage then we'll open up board and trains boarding again everything so uh you know living in the suburbs here we're a bit limited yeah and my one of my neighbors is uh he's a bit of a dick he puts in lots of complaints to our Council um so I just spent like the last 12 months with the council investigating my house because he's put in like three or four complaints um and they said they found there's nothing to answer for there's not an issue but they won't let me have any more dogs I've got four dogs on the property at the moment so yeah we'll get back to it we'll get back to it so all right cool I think yeah I think we just start with our podcast for today and thanks for joining in guys um I'm Dominic together with my co-host Mike and we have a special guest today and I think it's the best way if you just introduce yourself right yeah oh my name is Daniel I'm uh from Adelaide South Australia uh it's not really a known state or city in Australia we're down we're down the bottom in the Middle where you got the ark uh in the middle of Australia there I've been a dog trainer now professionally for four years and I was I was a hobbyist before that um and really when I say hobby sales it was an interest to me it's not like I was involved in any dog sports or anything like that just my pet dogs and I was always interested since my first

제 첫 반려견은 핏불이었는데, 레드 노즈 핏불 테리어였어요. 제가 18살 때 처음 키운 개였죠 그 당시엔 핏불을 키우는 게 멋있어 보였거든요 그래서 한 마리 데려왔고 레드 노즈 핏불을 데리고 거리를 활보하는 상남자처럼 보이고 싶었어요 거리를 돌아다니면서요 음, 그리고 키우는 방식을 완전히 잘못했죠 네, 결국엔 완전히 엉망인 개가 되어버렸어요. 저랑 그 개, 둘이서만 방에 있을 때는 아주 좋은 착한 개였어요 그 외의 상황에서는 완전히 미쳐 날뛰었죠. 보이는 건 뭐든지 공격하려고 했어요. 결국 그 개가 6살이 되었을 때 안락사를 시켜야만 했죠 이름은 시저였는데, 음 제 인생에서 가장 최악의 날 중 하나였어요 정말 힘들게 안락사를 결정해야 했거든요. 왜냐하면 그 개는 단점도 많았지만 우리 둘 사이에는 정말 강한 유대감이 있었고 제 인생의 정말 힘든 시기를 함께 보내줬으니까요 그래서 기본적으로 저는 당시 개에 대해 제대로 알지 못한 채 인간의 생각 방식으로 접근했죠 개 공격성을 고치려면 다른 개를 데려와야겠다고 생각했어요. 누구나 강아지는 다 좋아하니까요 그렇게 저먼 셰퍼드 강아지를 데려왔는데 그게 제 첫 저먼 셰퍼드였어요. 음, 그런데 그 개가 셰퍼드 강아지가 생후 8주 되었을 때 공격을 하더라고요 그래서 며칠 동안 입마개를 씌우고 켄넬에 가둬두면서 계속 분리해 두었죠 그런데 그 개는 전혀 관심도 없었어요 음, 계속해서 관심이 전혀 없는 상태였죠 그녀 안에 있었고 그러던 어느 날 강아지가 제 가슴 위에 누워 있었고 그는 바닥에 누워 TV를 보고 있었는데 제가 그에게 닭고기 한 조각을 주려고 갔더니 강아지가 잠에서 깨어나서 그저 닭고기 냄새를 맡으러 다가갔는데 그는 갑자기 그녀에게 달려들어 물고 늘어지며 방 안에서 그녀를 이리저리 내동댕이치기 시작했어요 네, 그 순간이었어요 그전까지 우리는 약 3년 동안 독성 있는 관계를 유지했었죠, 아시다시피 거의 뭐 어, 뭐라 설명하기 어렵네요 가끔 이 개 때문에 느꼈던 제 뱃속의 그 메스꺼움 같은 기분은 말이죠, 그래서 그게 저에게는 마지막 한계였어요. 그래서 저는 그 녀석을 떼어내고 나서 제 서재에 처넣었죠 독일 셰퍼드에게서 그 녀석을 떼어낸 뒤 서재에 가두고 그 녀석은 마지막 식사로 닭고기를 통째로 먹게 했고 그다음 가서 안락사를 시켰어요. 그리고 저는 그날 스스로에게 다짐했죠. 다시는 이런 문제를 가진 개를 키우는 상황에 처하지 않겠다고요 그리고 절대 이런 결정을 다시는 제 개들 중 누구에게도 내리지 않겠다고요 제 개들에게 말이죠 음, 그래서 그게 저에게는 여정의 시작이 되었어요. 불을 지폈고 저는 그저 연구를 시작했죠 당시 제 연구는 세자르 밀란의 영상을 많이 보는 것부터 시작되었던 것 같아요. 10년 전쯤에는 그게 유행 같은 것이었죠 그리고 거기서부터 정말로 점점 확장되어 나갔어요 정말로요 음, 그게 바로 접니다, 다니엘. 저는 이제 여덟 번째 개를 키우고 있는 것 같네요, 오 정말요? 개를 여덟 마리나 키우시는군요 현재 집에 네 마리의 개를 키우고 있는데 네, 그렇습니다 음, 또 한 마리 더 키우고 싶어요
dog I had a Pit Bull a red nose Pit Bull Terrier for my first dog when I was 18 it was a cool thing at the time to have a pit bull you know so I went and got one and wanted to be the big badass with a red-nosed pity walking around the streets um and and raised it totally wrong you know and yeah it just turned out to be a total mess of a dog he was good it was a good dog if it was just me and him in a room everything outside of that uh he was nuts he wanted to kill anyone and everything and I ended up having to put him down when he was six his name was Caesar and um it was one of the worst days of my life uh really that I had to put him down because although all of his negatives you know we we had a really strong connection and he was with me through some pretty [ __ ] times in my life and basically I used the human thought process of not knowing dogs properly at the time and thought well the way that I'll fix his his dog aggression anyways I'll go get another dog because all everyone loves a puppy right so I've got a German Shepherd pup that was my first German Shepherd and um he ended up attacking her when she was eight weeks old and we spent a few days with the muzzle on crates you know always keeping separate and he was showing no interest in her and then one day the pup was laying on my chest while watching TV he was laying on the floor and I went to give him a piece of chicken and the pup woke up from asleep and just went to sniff the chicken and he just latched onto her and started throwing her around the room and yeah it was uh that moment we had about a three-year toxic relationship before that you know it was almost uh you know it's hard to explain the sickness in my stomach that I used to feel from this dog sometimes and and that was a final straw for me so I um I chucked him in my study after I pried him off of the uh the German Shepherd I chucked him in the study he got to eat the whole chicken as his last meal and then I went and put him down and I said to myself that day I'll never be in a situation where I'll have a dog that has these issues again and I would never make this decision again to one of my own dogs um so it started a journey for me it lit the fire and I just started researching and you know at the time my research kind of started with uh watching a lot of Cesar Milan and back back what 10 10 or so years ago you know that was kind of the thing and then it just expanded from there really really so um that's me Daniel I am I'm now up to dog number dog number eight I think oh really you have eight dogs so I've got four dogs at home at the moment but yeah um and I look forward to getting another

가능하다면 당장이라도 더 키우고 싶네요 과정을 다시 시작해서 모든 것을 다시 실습해 보고 싶거든요 음, 그러니까 약 4년 전에 저는 어... 전문적인 반려견 훈련의 여정을 시작했습니다. 첫 번째 워킹독인 타라를 얻었고, 지금 그 아이는 작년에 제가 처음으로 얻은 강아지들의 어미가 되었고 다음 달에 또 다른 한 배의 새끼들을 기다리고 있습니다 음, 그리고 제 벨지안 말리노이즈 아르코스가 있는데, 이 녀석은 정말 특별해요. 제 가장 친한 친구이자 아주 멋진 개예요. 제가 배운 것들 특히 네포포 시스템에서 배운 많은 것들을 실제로 적용해 볼 수 있었던 대상이 바로 이 친구였죠 음 그리고 지금은 로그라는 이름의 10개월 된 저먼 셰퍼드 강아지도 있는데 이 아이는 정부 기관에서 활동할 수 있도록 훈련 중입니다. 그런 수준까지 올려서 분양하는 것이 목표입니다 제 소개는 여기까지입니다 멋지네요 그럼 호주의 상황은 어떤가요? 그곳의 반려견 문화는 훈련 환경은 어떤지 묻고 싶네요 네, 잘 성장하고 있고 성장하는 모습을 보니 좋습니다 음 아마 훨씬 더 대중화되고 있는 것 같아요 좋은 현상이죠. 전 세계적으로 반려견 훈련이 어느 정도 관심을 받고 있다고 생각합니다, 어떤 방식이든 간에요 그것에 어떻게 주목이 집중되고 있는지 훨씬 더 많은 사람들이 반려견 훈련에 뛰어드는 것 같아요 음 저는 그게 장단점이 있다고 생각해요 왜냐하면 거의 매일 페이스북을 열면 새로운 도그 워커 겸 훈련사가 나타나거든요. 그냥 사업을 시작하고 나서 '강아지 산책 시켜드려요, 훈련도 가능해요'라고 하죠 그러고는 그런 사람들 중 몇몇은 보면 네 마리, 다섯 마리, 여섯 마리씩 강아지를 데리고 나가서 오프리쉬 산책을 시키는 등 온갖 행동을 다 하는데 아무런 자격도 없고 개들에 대해 잘 알지도 못해요. 그래서 그게 제가 보는 위험한 측면 중 하나죠 그런 현상이 나타나고 있어요 하지만 전체적으로는 이곳의 기준이 정말 높아지기 시작했다고 생각해요 그건 좋은 일이죠. 왜냐하면 당연히 대다수 속에서도 항상 정상에 올라서 기준을 끌어올리는 사람들은 나오기 마련이니까요 음 그러니 제 고향인 애들레이드에서는 좋은 일이죠 그곳 역시 성장하고 있어요. 저희처럼 정말 제대로 성과를 내고 있는 사람은 그리 많지 않거든요 음 하지만 말했듯이 이제 막 시작된 분야라 새로운 것이고 많은 사람들이 뛰어들고 있어요. 분명히 그들도 성장해 나갈 거예요. 제 목표 중 하나가 이곳에 커뮤니티를 만드는 것인데요 왜냐하면 제가 처음 이 일을 시작하고 배울 때는 음, 매우 폐쇄적으로 느껴졌고 도움을 청할 사람이 정말 아무도 없었거든요 나서려고 했지만 사람들은 진심으로 도와주려 하지 않았죠 음, 불안함 때문인지 뭔지는 모르겠지만 다음 단계로 나아가는 것을요 그래서 저는 이곳에 작은 커뮤니티를 만들기 위해 할 수 있는 일을 하려고 합니다 우리가 서로 도울 수 있도록 말이죠 우리가 서로 더 높은 기준을 유지할수록
one I would have more tomorrow if I could restart the process put it all into practice again um so yeah about four years ago I started uh started my professional dog training uh journey I got my first working dog Tara and she's now the mother of uh the the first litter I had last year and we got another litter due next month um and I've got Arcos my Belgium Malinois he is he's something else he's he's my best mate he's very cool dog he's where I've been able to put a lot of things into practice that I've learned especially in the nepopo system um and now I've got uh also Rogue is my German Shepherd puppy she's 10 months old but she's being developed for a government agency is is the hope to be able to get her to that level and sell her on so that's me awesome so what's um what's jumping in Australia what's the what's the dog climate look like there the training climate let me ask yeah well it's growing and it's good to see that it's growing um it's it's probably becoming a lot more popular which is good and I think worldwide dog training is getting a bit of uh a spotlight put on it no matter how how that Spotlight is being put on it there seems to be a lot more people getting into dog training um I think that that's both good and bad because almost every day I open up my Facebook and there's a new dog walker slash trainer uh that's just you know opened up a business and I can take the dogs for walk and I can train them and you can see some of these people you know they'll go pick up like four five six dogs and take them out off leash and all this sort of stuff but they've got no qualifications they don't know dogs is like okay so that's that's kind of a dangerous side that I see appearing but as a whole I think like the standards are really starting to raise here which is good because obviously out of the the majority you're always going to have people that rise to the top and push the bar um so that's good in Adelaide where I'm from it is again growing there's not too many of us that uh you know really really kicking goals here um but like I said it's it's it's new it's new and um there's a lot of people that are getting into it and I'm sure that they're going to grow and it's kind of my mission anyway to create a bit of a community here because when I was coming up um and learning it just felt very closed off and there was no one really to reach out to and people didn't want to really help you um take that next step up through insecurity or whatever I don't know um so I'm just trying to do what I can do to to create a bit of a community here so we can all help each other because the better we keep each other to

결국 고객들과 반려견들에게 더 좋은 일이니까요 결국은 그게 우리가 이 일을 하는 이유입니다 음, 그래서 도그 스포츠 같은 경우에는 여기 ANKC가 있는데 복종 훈련은 어디에나 있죠. 미국 AKC와 같은 곳이라고 보시면 됩니다 음, 여기 IGP를 위한 도그 스포츠 클럽은 하나뿐입니다 그게 전부죠 그래서 다른 클럽을 시작할지 고민 중인데 마침 모이는 작은 그룹이 하나 있습니다 음, 다들 관심사가 제각각이에요 어질리티든, 복종 훈련이든 바이트 워크든 뭐든 말이죠 제 생각은 그래요. 마음이 맞는 사람들끼리 모여서 서로가 원하는 목표를 이룰 수 있게 돕자는 거죠 굳이 IGP 클럽이나 PSA 클럽 같은 형태가 아니어도 그저 서로 도우면서 각자 원하는 분야에서 대회에 나갈 수 있도록 돕는 거죠 음, 네, 대략 그런 분위기입니다 그리고 여기도 어디나 그렇듯 조금씩 변화의 물결이 시작되고 있는 것 같습니다 음, 결국, 그런 식으로 운영되고 있죠 이곳 상황은 말하자면 그렇습니다 의 음 어 그러니까 그 툴 밴드들에 대해 말이죠 그리고 온갖 이데올로기 전쟁에 대해서도요 지금 전 세계적으로 일어나고 있는 일들인데 한 가지 제가 여기에서 특히 눈여겨보는 점은 어떤 증거도 보이지 않는다는 거예요 독일이나 미국 상황은 제가 잘 모르겠지만요 하지만 우리가 하는 훈련 방식이 학대라거나 개에게 나쁘다고 설교하는 사람들을 보면 이런 식으로 훈련하면 된다고 주장하면서 정작 보여주는 건 사진뿐이죠 저는 그런 태도에 매우 반대합니다 포스 프리(force-free)든 긍정 강화든 밸런스 훈련이든 그게 무엇이든 간에 요즘 같은 시대에 반려견 훈련사라면 말이죠 만약 페이스북 페이지나 웹사이트를 운영하면서 사진만 올려놓는다면 그건 저에게 조금 의심스러운 신호로 보입니다 글쎄요, 그것뿐만이 아니라 그건 어디나 마찬가지인 것 같아요. 사진만 그런 것도 아니고요 최근에 많이 봤거든요 이름을 밝히지는 않겠지만 지역 내에 몇몇 사람이 있는데 조만간 공개적으로 지적할 생각입니다 오늘은 아니고요 관련해서 글을 쓰고 있는데 제대로 작성하고 싶거든요 영상조차도 소리는 없고 음악만 깔아놓는 경우가 많아요 반려견 훈련사라면 그런 영상을 봤을 때 우선 분석적인 사람이 아니라면 논리적인 사람이 아니라면 문제를 깊이 생각하지 못하는 사람이라면 그런 유형의 사람이라면 그걸 보고도 잘 모를 수 있죠 훈련사가 어떤 도구를 쓰는지 혹은 어떤 방식으로 개를 다루는지 영상에서 소리를 지워버리면 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는지 알 수 없으니까요 그저 예쁜 영상이나 음악에 가려져 보이지 않게 되는 겁니다 무언가를 보고 분석하는 걸 즐기는 사람이라면 그럼 애견 훈련사가 되면 안 돼요. 알다시피 뭔가, 뭐랄까, 뭐 알다시피 머리 쓸 필요 없는 일을 해야죠. 음, 하지만 진정한 애견 훈련사라면 이런 영상들을 볼 겁니다. 저도 최근에 봤는데 지금 이 말을 하려니 몇 가지 생각나는 영상들이 있네요.
a higher standard the better it is for for all the clients and the dogs really and that's why we do it at the end of the day um so yeah as as for like Dog Sports and stuff like that here we've got ankc obedience is everywhere which is like your equivalent of AKC in America um and there's one one dog Sport Club here for igp and that's it so whether or not consider starting another club or doing something we kind of got like a little group that catches up at the moment um and everyone's interested in a different type of discipline whether it's agility or obedience or you know bite work or whatever so my idea in in that sense is to let's just get life Minds together and we can all help each other get to wherever we want to go we don't have to be an igb igp club or a PSA club or whatever we can all just help and and work towards people people competing in wherever they want to go um so yeah that's that's pretty much what it's like and and here like everywhere we're starting to feel the the ripples of um of the uh you know the the tool bands and you know all this ideology warfare that's going on around the world at the moment but the one thing which I notice here especially is that you don't see any evidence I can't speak for in Germany or America but these people that are preaching that the way that we train is uh abusive or it's bad for the dog or anything and they say that you can do all these things all you see is pictures I'm very much against it and that doesn't matter if you're force-free positive only balanced or whatever any dog trainer in this day and age if you've got to if you've kind of got a Facebook page or or a website and it's only pictures to me that's a little bit of a red flag well and not only not only it I think that's the same everywhere it's not just pictures either because you can take um I've seen it recently a lot um and I won't call them out by name but there's a couple locally um I will call them out pretty soon enough but not just not today I'm working on a post but I want it to be right but you'll see videos even where there's no sound and there's music and as a dog trainer you can look at that if you're first of all if if you're not an analytical person if you're not a logical person if you can't think through issues if you're not the type of person that can that enjoys looking at something and breaking it down then you shouldn't be a dog trainer you know you should do something that is a my you know doesn't take a mind to do um but so you know a legitimate dog trainer will watch these videos and I've seen them recently and I just have a couple on my mind right now as I'm saying this

근데 영상을 보면 개에게 앉으라고 시켰는지 개에게 엎드리라고 시켰는지 알 수 있죠. 개가 알다시피... 됐어요. 끊긴 것 같네요. 아니, 볼트(Vault), 소리가 제거되고 음악이 덮여있죠. 그리고 음, 그게 어... 그리고 알다시피 공격이 음, 제 컴퓨터가 방금 뭘 했는데요, 이 어... 도구들에 대한 공격이 말이죠. 알다시피, 저는 어... 도구를 사용하는 많은 훈련사들이 위축되는 것을 보고 있습니다. 그리고 어, 이런 단어는 쓰고 싶지 않지만 전향(crossover)하려고 하죠, 아시다시피. 음, 그래서 저에게 그 모든 의미는 가지고 있는 지식의 절반을 잘라내서 쓰레기통에 던져버리는 것과 같아요. 왜냐하면 이제 당신은 그냥... 알다시피 음, 저는 그렇게 생각합니다. 하지만 어, 음, 제 생각에는 그런 방향으로 가는 것 같아요. 네, 맞아요. 그게 제 소신 발언입니다. 제 생각엔 어, 확실히 그런 경우라고 생각해요. 최소한 제 입장에서만 말씀드릴 수 있겠네요. 제가 사는 도시이기도 하지만, 제 생각에는 이게 어느 정도는 전체 반려견 훈련 업계에 통용될 거라 봅니다. 즉, 흔히 말하는 밸런스 트레이너들, 또는 도구를 사용하는 사람들 중 다수가 음, 그런 것들을 보여주길 두려워합니다. 왜냐하면 캔슬 컬처를 두려워하기 때문이죠. 왜냐하면, 음, 아시다시피 어쩌면 본인이 조금 규모가 작은 반려견 훈련사이거나 소규모 사업체를 운영한다면, 그로 인해 한두 명의 고객이라도 잃게 되면 그건 수익에 정말 큰 타격이 되니까요. 그래서, 저는 항상 이런 마음가짐이었습니다. 이게 나고, 받아들이든가 말든가 마음대로 해라. 싫으면 나가라, 이런 식이죠. 그래서 저는, 음, 캔슬 컬처에 대한 두려움 때문에 입을 다물거나 위축되는 그런 사람은 되지 않겠다는 태도를 취했습니다. 음, 운 좋게도 저에게는 뒤를 받쳐주는 다른 사업체들이 몇 군데 있어서 제 생계가 오로지 반려견 훈련에만 의존하지는 않습니다. 음, 그래서 생각했죠. 만약 다른 누구도 이 부분에 대해 선뜻 나서지 않는다면, 제가 사는 지역에서는 말이죠. 뭐 이게 저 혼자만의 싸움은 아니겠지만, 이제는 콘텐츠를 조금 더 내놓고 사람들에게 다른 측면을 보여줘야겠다고 생각했습니다. 그래서 최근에 저는 제 반려견 로그가 프롱 칼라 훈련을 하는 영상을 몇 개 올렸는데, 사람들이 하는 말이, 강아지가 겁먹은 것 같지도 않고 괴로워하는 거요, 네, 당연히 모든 게 그렇지는 않죠. 맞아요, 사람들이 저한테 프롱 칼라에 대해 말할 때면 저는 마치 고고학자가 뼈를 털어내는 것처럼 아주 조심스럽게, 정말 조심스럽게 다룬다고 말하죠. 알다시피 아주 미세한 것들을 조정할 수 있어요. 음, 그래서 그런 면을 보여줄 수 있다는 게 다행이죠. 그리고 사람들이 그것이 변화를 만들기에 충분한지 아닌지에 대해 의견이 갈리기도 하고요. 왜냐하면 곧 정치적인 싸움이 시작될 거거든요. 이제 준비가 되어가고 있죠. RSPCA는 이미 음, 우리가 사는 도시나 주의 동물 복지법을 개정하겠다는 의도를 밝힌 상태예요. 그리고 그중 가장 핵심적인 사안이 어, 프롱 칼라를 금지하는 것이죠.
but they you can tell that they said sit in the dog down or you can tell that they said down and the dog you know be I think we lost it no but the Vault The Sounds taken away there's music overlays and then um it's uh and then you know the assault on um my computer just did something this the assault against uh tools you know and I'm seeing uh I'm seeing a lot of trainers that use tools being intimidated and trying to uh I even I hate to use the word but crossover you know um and so that all to me all that means is you're taking your whole brain and you're you're cutting it in half and throwing half of it in the garbage because now you're just a [ __ ] you know um that's just the way I see it but it uh well I think it's kind of going no yeah that's it that's my soapbox I think I think that uh I definitely feel that that is also the case at least I can only speak for for the city that I'm from anyway but I think that it would kind of generalize to the dog training Community is that there is a lot of what we call balance trainers or people that use tools whatever um that are afraid to show that stuff because they fear the cancer culture coming up because when when uh you know maybe you're you're a bit of a smaller dog trainer or you've got a small business whatever you know losing one or two clients out of that because of that that's that's a lot of your bottom line so I've always been of the the mindset where it's like this is me take it or leave it if you don't like it get out right so um I kind of took the um The Stance of well I'm not going to be one of those people that gets shut down because of the fear of cancer culture um I'm lucky enough to have a couple of other businesses behind me so my my my livelihood doesn't solely rely on dog training um and I thought well if there's no one else really stepping up to the plate in that regard uh where I'm from not that it's it's my fight alone to cause but I need to start just putting stuff out a little bit more and showing people the other side and you know recently I've been putting a few videos of the Rogue my my pup doing some prom collar work and people just like the dog doesn't look scared doesn't look distressed yeah of course it doesn't all right you know I say people like the prom collar to me is like I'm an archaeologist brushing off the bones you know very gentle very gentle I can I can just find tune little things um so it's good to be able to show that side of things and and people have a difference of opinion whether or not that's enough to make a difference because we're going to have the political fight here soon it's starting to Gear Up the rspca is already

um put out their intentions to change the Animal Welfare act in the city that we're from or in the state that we're from um and and one of the the headlining things on that is uh to get the prong collar band um and and that alone you know the the kind of [ __ ] that they write in their emails out to their their email lists because I'm on the email list saying you know prong collars cause swelling of the head and uh blindness in dogs you know all this sort of stuff and it's like nonsense yeah where's your evidence but then again the more that I kind of interact with the dog world and you know coming to um see more than the dog world that's just in Adelaide like I really don't think that there's enough of you know the new age dog training with tools out there so everyone is their mindset is stuck back in the day where we can all agree that it was fairly heavy-handed back then 30 40 years ago plus um so really it's up for for everyone that's kind of taking part now they have to bite the bullet a little bit and the more that we have numbers putting good work out uh the more hopefully that will will be able to persuade our sides of things and there is there is maybe a small community you know like we in the way that we train in the style that we train we may be the two percent of the dog training Community but we're still a community that that uses these tools and we do it very well you know what the problem is that there are a lot of people out there or I mean especially in Germany saying there are a lot of clubs that still train like in the old days like 30 40 years ago and that is in my opinion that's dog abuse and that's why these people are so on to ban those tools because they are just a small group of people abusing dogs or animals with these tools and that's that's a big problem yeah but they don't see any different you know the people wanting the ban that's what they see and then Oh that's oh that's that's not force-free training or that's not positive only training so that's uh that's balance training there's good and bad training that's it there's no four three there's no positive only you're either a good dog trainer you're bad and and I would even argue and you know there's people that would debate me on this but I would argue that more abuse and the worse abuse comes from the uh quote-unquote purely positive side of training honestly because you build up dogs to be happy and to be energetic you know and then but when it's time for a correction what you know you have to give the dog you have to speak to a dog in a language that the dog don't understand and so you're you're jumping straight to a

불필요한 겁니다. 애초에 올바르게 가르쳤더라면 말이죠. 그리고 음, 그건 순수하게는 할 수 없습니다. 당신은 개를 훈련시킬 수 없을 겁니다. 그게 4주 위탁 훈련이든, 어떤 경우이든 간에 순수하게 긍정적인 방식만으로는 개를 훈련시킬 수 없을 겁니다. 긍정적인 방법이라는 말도 별로 좋아하지 않습니다. 더 정직하지 못한 표현이라고 생각하거든요. 하지만 만약 당신이 카메라 앞에서는 할 수 있겠죠, 괜찮습니다. 스냅샷이나 하이라이트 영상은 보여줄 수 있겠지만, 카메라 뒤에서 그 개를 교정할 때면, 당신은 아마도 그렇지 않은 방식으로 하고 있을 겁니다. 당신이 보는 영상들을 보면 알 수 있죠. 실명을 거론할 수도 있겠네요. 빅토리아 스틸웰(Victoria Stilwell)이나 그런 사람들, 심지어 잭 조지(Zach George)까지도 그가 리드줄을 잡아채는 걸 보면 알 수 있죠. 음, 그러니까 말이죠, 솔직히 하지만 그건 선정주의와 감정주의예요 결국 어떤 말을 하느냐가 중요한데 사람들은 감정과 정서가 항상 논리를 앞서요 왜냐하면 감정과 정서는 처리하는 데 시간이 걸리지 않거든요. 그러니까 누군가의 감정을 아주 빠르게 자극할 수는 있지만 생각을 하게 만드는 데는 최소한 몇 초는 걸리거든요. 그런데 사람들은 1초의 여유도 없이 다음 페이지로 넘겨버리니까요. 알다시피, 어 제가 잭 조지의 영상을 하나 봤는데 어, 사실 그의 이름조차 언급하기 싫어요 페이스북이 아마 듣고 있을 테니 이제 제 뉴스피드에 잭 조지 영상이 하루 종일 뜨겠죠 아무튼 그가 올린 영상에서 그가 하는 행동에 대해 말하더라고요. 해변에 갔을 때 개에게 리콜 명령을 내렸는데 돌아오지 않으면 그때 두 번째 명령으로 '기다려'를 한다고 하더군요 그러니까 자기가 해변을 걷고 있는데 아내는 200미터쯤 저 앞쪽에 있고 개는 거기 있는데 개를 불렀는데도 오지 않는다면 그때 '기다려'라고 한다는 거예요 진짜 농담하나 싶었죠. 그건 통제력이 전혀 없다는 걸 보여주는 것뿐이에요 그런 상태라면 애초에 개를 오프 리쉬로 두면 안 되는 거죠 그건 말도 안 되는 소리예요. 왜냐하면 '기다려'는 정적인 명령이니까요. 개에게 '기다려'라고 명령하면 보통 개는 아무것도 하지 않아야 하는데 그건 개에게 오라고 하는 것보다 덜 가능성 있는 일이니까요 그게 개가 실제로 무언가를 하게끔 마음을 쓰게 하죠. 개에게는 아무것도 하지 않으면서 집중력을 유지하는 것보다 무언가를 하게 시키고 집중력을 유지하게 하는 것이 더 쉽거든요. 그래서 그의 모든 논리는 그냥, 아시다시피 그들은 앞서 말했듯이 생각할 수 있어야 하는데, 그런 사람들은 생각을 못 해요. 그들이 할 수 있는 거라곤 그저 영상 속에서 떠들기만 하는 거죠. 그 카리스마적인, 뭐랄까 그래, 난 네 친구야 하는 식으로 말이죠. 그게 사람들의 마음을 얻고, 그게 바로 문제예요. 사람들의 마음을 사로잡으니까요. 네, 제 생각엔 뭐랄까 정말 그런 시점까지 왔다고 봅니다. 우리 커뮤니티로서 할 수 있는 일을 해야 하죠. 그러니까 많은
punishment that's um it's not necessary if you would have taught the dog you know correctly from the beginning and um You Know It uh you're not you can't purely you're not gonna train a dog throughout its career whether that's a four-week board and train or whatever you know the case may be but you're not going to train a dog and and purely positive methods don't even like saying that because I feel like it's oxing more honest but if you if you um on camera you can do it it's fine you can show the snapshots and the Highlight moments but behind the scenes if you're correcting that dog you're probably doing it in a way that's not um you see the videos you know you can call them out by name you can look at um Victoria Stillwell and and those and even Zach George when you see him jerking on a leash you know um I mean come on right you know I could but it's sensationalism and emotionalism it's all about the words you say and people will feelings and emotion trumps logic every time because feeling and emotion doesn't take time to process it's just like you know you can trigger somebody's emotions real fast but it takes at least a few seconds to get them to think about something and people don't have a second you know they're scrolling to the next You Know It uh I saw a um a Zach George video uh and I hate even saying his name because Facebook's probably listening and now I'm gonna have Zach George pop up in my news feed all day but uh he had a video talking about what he does he was at the beach and what he does if his dog doesn't come back on a recall and he gives a second command to stay so he was like I'll be walking on the beach and my wife is 200 meters up up uh up that way or and uh my dog's there and I call my dog and my dog decides not to come back then I tell her stay I'm like you've got to be kidding like that that just shows total lack of control you shouldn't even have your dug off leash that's not even local because a stay is a static command and the dog is is if you're telling a dog to stay typically the the dog's required to do nothing Which is less likely than telling the dog to come which puts the dog's mind on actually doing something it's easier for a dog to do something and to stay on track for it to do nothing and stay on track so his whole logic he's just you know they can't like I said before you got to be able to think and those people can't think all they can do is talk on on video with that charismatic sort of yeah I'm your buddy and you know and that wins people and that's the problem that wins people so yes I think like you know it's it's really to a point where yeah we need to as a community do what

논의가 오가고는 있지만 문제는 여긴 호주에서도 말이죠. 예를 들어 북쪽에 있는 퀸즐랜드 주에서는 몇 달 전, 한 6개월 내에 프롱 칼라(pronged collar)를 사실상 금지하기 시작했거든요. 전체 정치적 과정을 거치긴 했지만 문제는 정부가 전체 반려견 훈련 커뮤니티를 완전히 따돌렸다는 겁니다. 왜냐하면 공개적인 의견 수렴을 거쳤다고 했는데 실제로는 그렇지 않았거든요. 그 누구도 반려견 커뮤니티 관계자에게 접근하지 않았죠. 결국 동물권 단체와 맺은 이면 계약이었던 셈이죠. 그게 뭐든 간에 말입니다. 그래서 이제 규칙이 생겨버렸는데 제 말을 그대로 인용하진 마세요, 저도 퀸즐랜드 법을 아주 자세히 따르는 건 아니라서요. 하지만 이건 그저건... 그건 대략 이런 사실에 관한 것입니다 개에게 프롱 칼라를 채울 수 없다는 거죠 타당한 용도나 타당한 이유가 있지 않는 한 말입니다 제 말은 네, 맞아요. 그러니까 타당성이라는 건 꽤 주관적이라서 만약 구체적인 지침을 주지 않는다면 말이죠 음, 그런데 그거 아시나요? 그래서 정당들을 달래려고 이러는 건가요? 수십만 달러를 들여서 이 법안을 의회에 통과시킨 이유가 무엇인가요? 그래서 결국 원래 있던 것과 똑같은 상황이 되었는데 문장 하나만 추가된 셈이잖아요. 정말 어리석은 일이지만 네, 정말 어리석은 일입니다. 하지만 음, 제 생각에는 전문 반려견 훈련사 협회라고 불리는 이 단체가 새로 생겼고 이제 곧 음, 회비를 요구하기 시작할 텐데 좋은 일이죠. 의회에 맞서 싸우고 있으니까요. 하지만 저는 반려견 훈련 커뮤니티에서 이것에 맞서 싸우기 위해 자금을 더 보태야 한다고 생각합니다. 지금 우리처럼 팟캐스트에 앉아서 자기 생각을 말하는 사람들이 많은데, 물론 널리 알리는 것은 중요하지만 결국 돈이 없으면 법정에서 이런 문제를 다툴 수 없고 불평하고 투덜대는 것 이상의 결과를 얻어낼 수는 없을 테니까요. 그러니까 말이죠. 네, 맞습니다. 네. 음, 네, 맞는 말이에요. 지금 저희 상황이 그래요. 음, 그리고 그건 분명 힘들 거예요. 힘들 수밖에 없는 게, 다시 말하지만, 지역 사회 전체를 놓고 보면, 바이트 스포츠 같은 활동이 개에게 좋다는 걸 저희는 알 수 있어도, 사람들이 보기엔 그런 활동이 개에게 어떻게 좋은지 이해하기 어렵거든요. 왜 저렇게 공격적이고 사나운 개를 사회에 두려 할까? 사람들 물려고 교육하는 거 아냐? 이제 사람을 물겠지, 아니면 길 가다가 나와 내 아이를 옆에서 물지도 몰라, 뭐 이런 식이죠. 그냥 그들은 이해를 못 하는 거예요. 그래서 가끔은 교육을 하고,
we can I mean there's like there's a lot of discussion about it the problem is and even in Australia here there's been uh since like in Queensland which is a state up north they they they started uh they actually banned a prom color probably a few months ago now maybe within the last six months and they went through the whole political process but the problem is is that even the government blindsided the whole dog training Community because they said that they went to public console consultation but they actually didn't no one from the dog Community was approached it was a backdoor deal that it turns out with the animal rights party whatever it was um so now they've got a rule in place and you can't quote me because I don't really follow Queensland law but it's a it's something around the fact that you cannot have a prong collar on the dog unless you have a legitimate use or a legitimate reason for doing so I mean yeah it's a okay so legitimacy is pretty subjective so unless you're going to give some guidelines around that um but you know it's it's yeah so are you doing it to appease the political parties what was the point of spending all those hundreds of thousands of dollars putting this bill through Parliament and now you've still got what you had in the first place but you've just got an extra sentence written in the yeah it's stupid but um I think that uh what what this group of it's called the um professional dog trainers Association and they're they're new they're going to start um you know calling for membership dues which is good right because they're putting fights to to Parliament but I think there needs to be a little bit more from the dog training community to kick some funds into fighting this rather than there's a lot of people like us right now sitting on a podcast talking speaking our mind which is good because we need to spread the word as well but at the end of the day without money you're not going to fight this stuff in court and you're not going to be able to get any further than kind of bitching and moaning about it so yeah um yeah that's true that's that's where we're at um and that's that's going to be tough it's going to be tough because again when you when you look at Community as a whole even though we can see stuff like even bite Sports uh good for dogs it's hard for people to see how doing that is good for a dog why would you want that aggressive vicious dog in society that's going to go bite people you're teaching it to bite people now it's going to bite me or my kid when I'm walking down the road next to you and all that they just they don't get it so occasionally education and bringing as

much to light as possible is is where we need to go yeah all right well um so let's talk about and I I want to get your perspective um on you know the new silver School uh the next one is coming up actually this this week it starts uh Thursday I believe so let's get your uh tell us about your experience at the at the First new gold School Silver so what you're going to say first is that we we all met and in Springfield Missouri at the Bass Pro Shop the first time um when you went flying into the new silver School uh the First new civil school so none of the people know that yes so uh well man I've been trying to uh get to do the nepopo silver and gold for ages um and then covert happened right and then the last gold school was announced I actually wrote to my government three or four times asking for a travel exemption so I could get to the states uh because I wanted to make the last uh silver and gold that was an offer and that didn't happen so it was a bit distraught and uh a bit upset about that but you know we're going through covert I even was messaging Michael Bellon a few times and hey come on there's got to be a way I need to do this what's going to happen and then as soon as I saw uh or late last year the the new well late last year or early this year new silver School mate was 24 hours and I was messaging Sophie I'm in let's go um so yeah it was good to to get back and have it have a chance of that but where where I was probably a few months before I did Hans came to Australia and I did his seminar right and last November and that seminar to me was was life-changing in terms of my dog training mindset because up until that point I'd done a lot of um online coaching with people around the world um and and around Australia and I took stuff out of those those uh coaching calls and and consults but until I was at Honda seminar it was almost like that that click and everything just banded together so the timing for me to go to Silver school you know the universe provides because I think that if I'd gone sooner I don't think I would have been ready to to actually take on the points or or Excel so um going going in March this year to Silver school it again had reinforced a lot of the stuff that I had been learning about nepopo and taking from different nepo post students or graduates I should say um and and hearing it from The Source you know to sit there and listen to Bart for three days of the I could listen to him in his accent for weeks all right the first time I heard uh heard Bart was on the canine Paradigm and I was there was an instant attraction you know there's some people that are very big in

the dog training world and I can't listen to them for more than two minutes right you know and that's a very important thing when you're getting information from someone you you need to be engaged and not only uh the way that Bart delivers information like I said his accent it's a little bit pleasing to listen to um so I and I don't know if it's you know the same with Hansen that his his seminar and Han said to me is Daniel's because my English is terrible I only say the important stuff you know so all all what we call here in Australia all the waffle the the waffle crop there is out the window so all the important information comes through so yeah having said that silver School reinforced a lot of stuff for me um was it uh you know it was not a lot of well there was still new stuff it's not like I was learning it for the first time so for me like I said it was reinforcing but being there in the room uh was more important to me and the networking was hands down amazing I think on the first day when we went to register and I saw Bart and Michael standing there I felt like I was backstage at a rock and roll concert I was like these are people I've only seen it online and now you know Bart just came up to me and started talking to me like we've known each other for years I was like what again had this feeling of connection um to me propose a system but then to the international dog training Community made me feel that you know it is a little bit more reachable uh because in Istanbul where I'm from again there's not there's not that connection with with much of the dog training industry um but going through the process of the three days with with the uh the structure that the the seminar was man it was very digestible information I think that's the best the best thing about it and I don't I can't speak for the old silver school I think it was over five days was it five days um so I don't know if it was just a um if there was information that was cut down whether it was a better Deliverance of the information um but it was very much to the point and the way that you know being having the testing there and all that sort of stuff I walked away from that and it was all just implemented right so I don't have to think about it and and to to have this now analytical diagnostic system in my head when it comes to looking at Behavior again that just put the final points on and coming home from that the way that that changed my training you know like we're up and running now you know the way that I can think about something that I want to build in my dog and just think about that in my head of how I'm going to go about it

analyzing sessions in the moment everything you know you know I kind of use the analogy I feel like I've finally got my black belt in dog training and you know a lot of people think oh black belt is like you know black belt means that uh oh you're you're cool nah nah black belt means that you just start the journey again right and and now I feel that I've taken all the information over the past four years um and now I can sort of give it my own flavor and I can I can make it my own um and and that's what I'm excited doing building and working with my dogs at the moment I think there was a little bit of time there where I had too much information and I paralyzed myself with it because um you know I overthink everything and try and over plan and strategize and then through fear of not having the perfect outcome I would avoid it but then still in my head I'd be doing the inlaps let's go like are we going to do it no I'm not going to do it today no I'm not going to do it today and now it's just like yeah it's just a bit of feeling go into it sometimes I'll I'll set up a session I might put the jump out for example yeah we're going to work on the jump today and then one of my dogs shows me something and I'll be like I don't like the way you did that and now the whole session just revolves around that one little section of training and yeah I just feel like I've hit my flow and and that definitely came uh after I'm the seminar and then silver school to back that up um it's been awesome so what about a gold school what gold school do you have in mind who's I'm sure somebody's in Australia yeah we've got we've got Ben Gertz who is a multiplicator he's in Western Australia um but I kind of have uh you know another little Fanboy crush on hand so um chemistry then that's good you know well you know like I I see it in the fact that he he took he took the the uh the blindfolder for me in such a big way that I want to keep that that mentorship education uh with him um and like he's a cool dude we we got a good friendship we talk to each other like every few days we're messaging each other so um yeah and that's not to say anything against Ben but I I just that's where I want to go and again taking it back to a little bit of the the martial martial arts analogy um type thing I see the lineage of information is kind of cool and the fact that Hans has been with with Bart for so long um you know you yeah your master and then the Grand Master the next step up and it's it's more of a direct lineage to the source again so that's that's kind of my thought process so hopefully uh well not hopefully we're planning um sometime early next year for Hans to

so we're coming to Belgium right no I wanted to go to Belgium but I need my own dog to do the gold school so Hans is going to come out here I think also good don't quote me on that because I'm not sure if I'm allowed to disclose any of that information yet that's the the mild uh thought processes to to bring him out here and um yeah we'll do a gold school here so going back to your to your thought of taking away the two days from the silver School so uh so I was there too so I can I can say that they're all that you guys got all the same informations that we also got so in the three days it was a little bit more it might just my opinion you know it was a little bit more compressed information that's why also some people felt sometimes it was just too much a little bit too much information given and also another factor is that we were like 20 people 25 in our civil school yeah and now it was up to a hundred and we did some things like speaking in front of the class explaining what you just heard and that's just a possible uh within you when you have 100 people also the role playing the role games it's just not the same with 25 or 100 people so right you can't do that in that like we did um it was even though it was the same rules really no questions um everybody's got uh you know rule Breakers I guess but there's more opportunity to interact in class you know if you have 150 people in a room you can't you just can't because you know you would need well that many people you'd need two weeks probably two or three weeks to go through all the questions so I think uh you know I think a positive uh well positive skin from from my Outlook yeah we may have not had that direct um opportunity of of discussion with Michael and Bart but what it did was it formed the little clusters in the room so those people that you were sitting with or attending with uh the people behind you the people in front of you you you started to converse with them a little bit so then you've got oh what's his perception of that point that was just made or how do you take this or this is my opinion and you know so it just created a little bit more networking among amongst well yeah and you've got 20 grads you know gold grads that are there too to kind of help out with you know um you know sometimes the same question can be read two or three different ways but you really you have to apply it to the system 10 minutes sometimes you know just having somebody else that already has been through that question not that they understood it when they went through it too but they've already you know made and been to that mile marker and have um you know have

had the understanding so it's easy to I just said a whole lot that I didn't have to say didn't uh that's what I do yeah so what about the The Experience um the food did you enjoy that man I still every now and again think about the biscuits I like I'm a foodie man I used to be a big guy so I'm uh at my heaviest I was about 135 I've always been a lover of food and I used to be a chef everything so if there's something good like I can tell my my wife memories from my life based on the food that I ate at that time right so I'm a little bit weird that way but yeah I still every now and again we'll just be like man those biscuits were good like I'm going to try and make them one day but I won't I don't think I'll be able to make them as good as they were um but yeah the food was good coffee I'm sorry coffee was not great um but to be honest I don't know if America gets coffee like we do down here yeah what kind of source man we go through coffee but it really it wasn't that good of coffee though it really wasn't so um yeah like yeah we we have very good coffee here but I haven't found coffee anywhere outside of Australia that matches properties at home and that could be for everyone because that's just what you're used to but um ah yeah just it was it was hard hard with the coffee but what's needed apart from that the location was amazing right like I said it was cool to go to a different part of America not being in a big city um very bizarre to see such a flat a flat City and it's hard because America is so big compared to where we're from so I think I think Missouri or Springfield Missouri was there population about a million yeah Springfield's not really that big now if you go up north a little bit to a couple hours North uh Kansas City is a is a is a lot bigger but uh Springfield there's not that many really I thought I'd rate a couple hundred thousand when I rocked up but I thought so I think I think my taxi driver my taxi driver's name was pork chop yeah I saw you you posted today yeah yeah pork chop I'm like how'd you get that name he's like oh I did some time in prison I was like Jesus yeah I was like all right no he was cool man it was cool he picked me up every day took me back to my hotel every day airports and then he recommended some good barbecue all that sort of stuff but um yeah uh he I think he told me it was about a million but maybe I was wrong but myself you're actually it's actually on the top of a it's a massive Plateau on the top of a mountain range so really yeah it's really flat there but you're you're on the top of the uh I think it's the Ozark Mountains there so you're actually right

고원이 워낙 넓어서 평지처럼 느껴지는 거죠 마치 낮은 곳에 있는 것처럼요 맞아요 그러니까 제 말은 건물 규모로 봤을 때 이렇게 독특한 도시는 가본 적이 없는 것 같아요 아 맞아요 그건 도시라기보다는 마을에 가깝죠 네 그래서 모든 건물이 3층이나 4층 정도 높이예요 주변에 뭐가 있는지 아주 단순하게 말해서 거기를 봤는데 진짜 엄청나게 큰 Bass Pro가 있는 거예요 거기가 유일하게 있는 건물인데 정말 엄청나게 커요 믿기 어려울 정도였어요 우리가 첫날 들어가서 정신을 차리고 갔을 때 도미닉 당신과 다른 사람들과 함께 점심을 먹게 되었죠 어 그리고 음 한스가 '아 네 우리 그냥 총기 매장에 있어요'라고 하더군요 그래서 우리도 총기 매장에 갔는데 그 총기 매장은 정말 무슨 Kmart나 Target보다 훨씬 컸어요 총만 파는 대형 백화점 같았는데 정말 믿을 수가 없었죠 아주 잘 해놨더라고요 거기에 있는 물건들의 양을 보면 거기가 그렇게 클 줄은 정말 몰랐어요 그 Bass Pro는 정말 대단했어요 맞아요 정말 재미있죠 반려견 동반이 가능한 것도 정말 멋진 점이에요 근처에 산다면 반려견을 데려가기에 아주 좋은 곳이죠 특히 날씨가 더울 때 훈련하고 사회화시키기에 아주 좋습니다 이제 시간이 거의 다 되었네요 톰 음 아까 다뤘던 내용이긴 하지만 음 하나만 더 질문해도 될까요 돔 당신이 질문할 수 있을 것 같은데 네 사실 궁금한 게 있어요 학교나 프로포즈 스쿨 등이 생기기 전에도 개 훈련을 하셨잖아요 그런데 저는 항상 학교나 학교에서 전수되는 지식이 당신의 훈련 방식을 어떻게 바꾸는지 궁금해요 단순히 더 많이 생각하게 되는 건지 아니면 더 많이 이해하게 되는 건지 그게 당신의 훈련 방식에 어떤 영향을 주었나요 궁금합니다 네, 제 생각엔 그게... 확실히 지금은 훈련을 더 많이 하는 것 같아요. 왜냐면 결과가 나오고 있는 단계에 있다는 느낌을 받거든요. 가끔은 저 자신을 자제해야 할 때도 있어요. '아, 개들도 오늘은 쉬는 날이지' 싶으면서도 여전히 앉아서 자꾸 '가자'라고 하게 돼요. 해내고 싶으니까요. 어쩌면 그냥 공놀이나 하러 공원에 가자고 하다가도 결국엔 본격적인 훈련 세션으로 변해버리곤 하거든요, 아시죠? 그래서, 음, 그런 면에서 저는 제 생각들로부터 자유롭다고 느껴요. 왜냐하면 전에도 말했듯이 모든 것을 너무 깊게 생각했었는데 이제는 훨씬 더 많이 흐름에 맡기게 되었거든요. 음, 앞서 언급했듯이 훈련 도중에 연습하고 싶은 것을 발견하거나 마음에 들지 않는 부분을 보면 방향을 완전히 바꿔버리기도 해요. 결국 모든 건 느낌에서 오는 거죠. 그리고 저는 이제 모든 것을 훨씬 더 깊은 수준에서 볼 수 있다고 느껴요. 예전에는 모든 게... 제 개 훈련 방식을 바꿔놓은 Hans의 멋진 명언이 다시 생각나네요. in the middle of a mountain range but the plateau is so the plane's so big that it makes it feel like you're on you know you're on the bottom yeah so I mean like you I've I don't think I've been to a such a collect City in terms of like even their size of buildings oh yeah yeah it's more of a town yeah yeah so like you know everything is about three three stories four stories and then you know again being very plain in terms of what's around and then seeing this huge bloody Bass Pro that's the only thing that's there that's that's huge believe it like we went in and the first day we went in when we came to and we ended up having lunch with you Dominic and and the others um and Hans is like oh yeah we're just in the gun shop okay so we went to the gun shop the gun shops bloody's biggest Kmart or Target you know like we big department store just for guns is unbelievable so very very well done the the amount of stuff that they had there they just couldn't believe how big that That Bass Pro was yeah it's pretty fun it's a good it's cool that it's dog friendly too like if you live there you know it's a good place to take your dogs and and to train to socialize especially if it's hot outside so we're we're just about out of Tom um but I do want to and I know we touched on it already um but one more question and I'll Dom you can ask it I guess yeah so I'm curious I mean you trained dogs before the school and they proposed school and all that but I'm always curious how the the the the school or how the knowledge passed over at the school changes your way of training is it is it more that you just think more or you understand more or how did that affect your training yeah well I think that it's it's I definitely train more now because I feel like I'm in a place where I'm getting results and you know sometimes I have to hold myself back ah the dogs deserve a day off today but I'm still sitting there going let's go like I want to rock it uh maybe we'll just go do a ball session at the park and then it turns into a full-on training session you know so um but in terms of uh of that I feel I feel free from my thoughts because like I said before I was overthinking everything and now I just go with the flow so much so much more um as I mentioned before I can be mid-session see something that I want to work on uh or that I'm not liking and just totally change that direction so it all it comes from feel you know and I feel that I can I can I can see everything to such a deeper level now whereas before everything was again a great quote from Hans that changed my my my dog training was trained Behavior not exercises right so

once we look into into what the dog is offering rather than the overall well not the overall big picture but if we can focus more on how the dog is doing stuff and and picking those little bits of behavior rather than or I tried to do the jump it was either right or wrong right what part can we pull out of that that the dog did well and and stretch that into a bigger piece of behavior um oh it just changed my my relationship with the dogs I wasn't so frustrated with my dogs anymore because you know so ah you know you stuff it up again or whatever like I could take [ __ ] as a coach and be like oh actually what you just did there are like let's get more of that out how can I set stuff up to get more of that out and then we can we can bring that across to the exercise of jumping um so in terms of in terms of uh that yeah like I feel free from from all the thinking with my my students I feel now I can take all that information that was in my head and deliver it to them in a much clearer clear away and and we've got a process to do things um in terms of how we take nepopo and deliver that to the pet dogs officially we don't train me popo until I get my gold school and I can put the uh the thing up but in terms of training um training to the to the students it's like I don't teach any certain way of job training here I teach you dog training so if you want to be a positive only trainer you can come here and do positive only stuff right that's cool that's no problems we we show you the different tools that you have as a dog trainer the different principles learning theories all that sort of stuff and it's up to you to find what what gets the best out of your dog and if you go into it thinking okay well no like you know I want to I want to be a positive only trainer yep that's cool but if you're not getting the results you have to you have to be aware of that or even if you were doing it another way and you were doing nippo post style or uh you know straight straight to negative reinforcement training with your dog you have to be able to pick what is working and what is not working and that's that's where I feel that I deliver this information to my my um Pepto students is about how to be a dog trainer more so than how to train that dog if that makes sense um so very much about the how and and the why and then that that gives them these analytical points that they can keep in their mind and the better that they get the longer that they train they can handle these situations a little bit better because they're not stuck in well my dog's not taking food but it's reacting to that dog oh I'm just [ __ ] because that's how

음, 다른 훈련사에게 배웠던 학생이었죠. 그 학생이 말하길 그 훈련사는 저에게 그저 제가 개를 망쳤다고만 했다더군요. 아무런 해결책도 주지 않고요. 하지만 그건 간식 훈련 외에는 아무것도 하지 않으려는 사람의 전형입니다. 그게 바로 그런 사람입니다. 음 네, 확실히 제 전체적인 상품의 완성도가 훨씬 더 높아졌어요 그래서 이제는 제 흐름을 찾고 모든 것에 익숙해지면서 이제는 제 브랜드를 조금 더 밖으로 알리고 저 자신을 더 드러낼 준비가 됐어요. 왜냐하면 자신감이 생겼거든요. 단순히 말로만 설명하는 것이 아니라 실제 결과를 내고 있다는 것을 보여줄 수 있으니까요. 그러니 저는 말만 하는 사람은 아니죠 네 맞아요 네, 제가 생각하기에 가장 음 저에게 일어난 가장 좋은 일은 아마 지난 6개월 동안이었을 텐데 이게 좀 반려견 훈련사이자 코치로서 모순되게 들릴지 모르겠지만 저는 저 자신을 분리했어요 반려견 훈련사로서의 제 가치를 사람들이 얻는 결과로부터 분리해낸 거죠 왜냐하면 예전에는 '이 사람이 훈련을 안 하면 내가 형편없는 사람인가 봐'라고 생각했거든요. 하지만 이 장소 밖에서 그 사람이 무엇을 하는지는 제가 통제할 수 없잖아요 그래서 그 사실을 깨닫자마자 제 가르침이 틀린 게 아니고 제가 보여주고 가르치는 내용이 잘못된 게 아니라는 것을 알게 되었죠 그런데 그들이 문 밖으로 나가서 반려견과 아무것도 하지 않고 다음 주에 와서 숙제를 했다고 거짓말을 하면 그건 제가 어떻게 할 수 없는 부분이에요 그래서 제가 통제할 수 있는 유일한 것은 제 반려견들뿐이죠. 그게 당신에게 모든 것을 보여줄 수 있는 것들이 바로 제 훈련 방식이고, 이것이 결과입니다. 저는 제 개들을 쇼핑몰에서도 엎드리게 할 수 있어요 그렇죠, 쇼핑몰 안에서요 안팎으로 전부 다요 다양한 장소들, 하이 드라이브, 로우 드라이브까지요. 제가 그 모든 것을 보여줄 수 있다면 결과가 증명하는 셈이니, 제가 말하는 것에 대해 분명히 아는 것이 있을 겁니다 그리고 그게 바로 제 성공의 수준을 결부 짓는 이유이고, 제가 더욱 더 이 일을 사랑하게 된 이유입니다. 왜냐하면 이제는 그런 것들을 증명해 보일 수 있으니까요. 올해는 대회에 참가할 때가 됐어요 그리고 다른 사람들에게 제가 그것을 증명할 수 있다는 것을 인정받을 겁니다 그게 바로 목표죠 음, 그리고 제가 훈련하는 방식은 제 말리노이즈 아르코와 함께하는 건데, 세상에 정말 아주 일반적인 방식이에요. 지난 인터뷰에서 당신이 도미닉에 대해 언급했던 걸 들었어요 그 내용 속에서 말이죠 알다시피, 만약 당신이 IGP만 할 개를 가지고 있다면, 조금 더 폐쇄적인 개를 가져도 될 거예요 왜냐하면 그것은 항상 반복적인 루틴이니까요. 하지만 제 관점에서 목표는 매우 잘 일반화된 개를 만드는 것이며, 그래서 제가 특정한 기준에 맞게 좁혀도 개가 이미 알고 있기 때문에 그냥 해낼 수 있게 하는 거죠
they're made to feel unfortunately you know had a student here last week um Who Came From Another trainer she said like all that trainer did was tell me that I broke my dock didn't give me any solutions but that's someone who won't won't do anything except for treat train um so yeah it's definitely given a lot more well-roundedness to to my whole product and that's why now I feel from being in my flow and finding my groove with it all I'm ready to take my brand out there a little bit more and put myself out there because I've Got Confidence and not only can I talk about it and and explain what I'm doing now but I can also show you that I'm getting the results so I'm not someone that's just talking yeah yeah I think the biggest the biggest um well the best thing for me that happened probably again within the last six months was I and this sounds pretty contradictory as a as a dog trainer and a coach but I detached myself and my myself value as a dog trainer I detached that from the results that people get because before I was like well if this person's not doing it then it means that I'm bad but I can't control what that person does outside of this venue right so as soon as I kind of came to that well it doesn't mean that what I'm saying is not correct it doesn't mean that what I'm showing them and teaching them is not correct but if they walk out that door and don't do anything with that dog and come back next week and tell me they've done the homework I can't control that so the only thing I can control is my own dogs they're the ones that I can show you everything this is my system of training this is a result that gets I can show my dogs down at the mall right the shopping mall inside out all different areas uh high drive low drive and if I can show all of that and the proof is in the pudding then I must know something about what I'm talking about and that's that's what I tie my my level of success to and that's why I'm loving it even more because uh you know I can't I can show that stuff now this year is time for me to compete um and and get other people to tell me that I can show that stuff right that's that's the go um and the way that I'm training with Arco my Malinois like man it's in a very generalist way I heard you uh you kind of mentioned Dominic in the the interview within as about uh you know if you if you've got a dog that's only ever going to do igp you can be you can have a dog that's a little bit more close-minded because it's always repetitive the routine but my look of it and my goal is to create a dog that so well generalized that I can now narrow it down to a certain criteria and he can just do it because
