Yay good morning everybody good morning good morning I um we're gonna do this quick live and I thought how much fun would it be to start the live with some training so I have Prophet who is um 21 weeks old let's just say he'll be five months old next week so officially so I'm going to do a little bit of training and I have a question for you while I'm training he's teething so he's not tugging particularly well mine so mine means give me the toy strike means you can have it back mine give me the toy no matter what happens you can have it until I say strike all right I have a question for you if I could gift you one skill to your dog what one skill do you think would make your dog's life better make your life better what would that skill be that you would gift that you would have me gift to you I'm going to do a little bit of backup now with him mine good back strike what and what is that skill and then while you're typing in the chat let me know where you're from I love to know where you guys are from mine back cook strike get so Simone's going to tell me what the skills are and mine Le you just y yell them out for me just moan straight and where everybody is from it's oh in the comments you have to click on the comments little thing up here on the computer click on comments and then you'll see the comments coming in mine yeah oh that's our new one come here budy down there it goes strike did you see that I can help [Laughter] you no worries so right up in the corner there give it to me so what the question is if I could gift your dog one skill no leash pulling no leash pulling no leash pulling comes from a dog's understanding of what I call reinforcement zone so this is starts with no challenge to the dog mine close tugging side so how well does a dog understand reinforcement zone now if I put a cookie here side sure my puppy would get it but if the cookies are out in front so if I put the cookies in a bowl out in front as a test would my puppy still come into reinforcement zone so the cookies are here ready side side good cook so it's not just they'll do it if what they want is in their is on their nose it is well they'll do it if what they want is a distraction that could be a bunny today it's just a cookie close oh strike greeting people calmly that's a really good one that's a good um Mister you're tugging the cookies are still on the bowl and they're going to go somewhere okay I'm G to just put him where's the dog bed hop it up here bud hop up and I'm going to set up a little this little exercise that is um a foundation for dog agility so I want him to hit his back feet on there and to show you what that looks like this is a

relatively new skill for him and I'm going to use his Raw Feed raw food Mr you is doing something puppet please he's like yeah but you're touching bowls which means I'm going to be fed soon and I'm hungry all right so what if I could gift you one skill what would it be and how would that make your life better I haven't heard anybody say how that's going to make their life better so you're going to hear you've heard some location specific markers is what I've used today I use strike to mean take the toy from my hand if the toy was on the ground I would say bring me so that helps my dog to know where to look if I wanted him to take cookies on the ground I would say search if I want him to take the cookies from the bowl his word is chow just so you know what I'm doing if I'm going to deliver cookies to his mouth I should reward him for staying up there because I put him back up there cook cook means you stay where you're at and I'm going to deliver the cookies cook good boy break so he's going to look at the cookies I wonder if he'll try and take it or if he's going to say oh I can work come here bud cowo put one over here cow so he's not going around my purple cone but make move that in a little bit for him so he can have success so what is the skill we've got one that's really good um coming when cold so I can trust my dog Le oh that's a good one the skill would be the skill of having your dog come when cold so that you could trust the dog off leash and that just makes life better for the dog doesn't itou that's boy okay these buttons on my or zippers on my cuffs are digging into my ankles another good one is responding um in the face of hi ah doing what you want in the face of a high distraction cow cow I said you can have it so his cookies are in the bowl he could just cut over and eat them but he knows what I want is that so how do we get a dog to do what we want in the face of high distraction well there's two two schools of thought one is it's a dog's responsibility to do what we want and if he doesn't we correct him or even help him I'm not going to help him cowo I'm going to let him I'm going to set up the environment so what I want is a really attractive thing even if I put the food bowl down here now this is going to be a big distraction for him how do I get him to do what I want in the face of what he wants ciao so what if he came to this food bowl well we've played played this game a couple of times and I'm expecting that he should know which food bowl to go to and this is a distraction you see he's not going around his um his purple cones cow that was really good right so I just wanted to play a little bit uh of

weeks away from Christmas oh it's four weeks yesterday Christmas day or whatever season you celebrate um that week or that month so we have people here from uh Cape Town from uh South Africa Washington all like all over the planet which is amazing and I love that gem too I literally got goosebumps when I read that gem and so the the question of the day was if I could gift you one skill gift that skill to your dog how would that make your life better and there was a lot of different things that that came in but I want you to see that two things we once we stop thinking of training of what that dog has to have what that dog needs who that dog needs to be and think of it more as a gift that we give to our dogs daily by engaging by by um building understanding with even one skill how do we build understanding well if you listen to shape by dog my my podcast shap by dog last week I talked about um antecedent Arrangements which is a big big word which really is just about arranging the environment so the the choice you want is the choice the dog's going to make now let's say what I showed you at the beginning of the day this complex behavior of I want my puppy to go around the two purple things he's never done this up here never done it up here he's only done it downstairs in the training area twice he's done it twice with that setup and so I wanted him to go around the purple domes at least three paw touch on the Target and there'll be the distraction of food on the ground don't don't cut across don't you have to don't go in between those two purple domes there was a it was a very complex Behavior do you think I started with that setup how do you somebody somebody put in the comments what do you think the first layer of that would be the first layer anybody want to guess and and and if you know I'm GNA I'm going to say you're right if there's a few there's a few different behaviors it could be there's definitely one got my coffee on I should it's yummy so a so a solid stop command um oh my gosh Arlene Arlene ding ding ding so I started that with just one cone actually even before that ah this is the other Foundation that I was looking for that it's your choice you don't eat the food until I give you a marker word that says where you can eat the food all right so that was a foundation of it and then we went to one con actually before one cone just going from bow to bold there Connie's got it you guys are amazing just saying I haven't even had my coffee when I'm excited about this so yes we call it the veto game uh veto's thinking game so it's your choice veto's thinking game those are the layers and then it was I actually not

널빤지 위를 걷게 한 게 아니라, 제가 직접 뒷발을 타겟 쪽으로 옮기도록 셰이핑했죠. 이게 바로 그 단계들이에요. 10주 된 강아지일 때 아마 배웠을지도... 아뇨, 그때는 제가 데리고 있지 않았어요. 10주 된 강아지일 때라고 한 건 거짓말이에요. 11주 된 강아지였을 때 '당신의 선택(It's Your Choice)'을 배웠어요. 바로는 아니었을 수도 있고, 아마 12주 된 강아지였을 때였나 봐요. 그리고 크레이트 게임이 릴리스(해방)를 가르쳐 주었죠. 크레이트 게임은 또한 쿡(Cook)이 음식 줄게라는 의미라는 것도 가르쳐 주었고, 그리고 비토 사고력 게임까지, 이런 것들이 단계들이에요. 저는 그저 보여드리고 싶었어요. 어질리티를 하고 싶어서 핸들링 360에 관심이 있으시든, 이런 것들이 여러분이 반려견과 함께 하게 될 활동들이에요. 또는 더 다재다능한 가족 반려견을 원해서 리콜러즈(Recallers)에 관심이 있으시든, 그게 결국 어질리티견으로 이어질 수도 있죠. 그래서 이런 것들이 저희 모든 프로그램이 작동하는 방식이에요. 그 강아지는 몇 가지 크고 복잡한 행동들을 스스로 알아내야 했어요. 그 강아지가 걱정하는 기색을 보였나요? 아니면 허둥대면서 '아, 모르겠어, 뭘 해야 할지 모르겠어' 하는 모습을 보인 적이 있나요? 그 강아지는요, 항상 '오, 다음엔 뭘 할까? 이거 재밌네' 하는 그런 모습이었어요. 이제 뭘 할까요? 그냥 그게 다예요. 네. 다음으로, 이것이 바로 학습의 단계입니다. 그리고 이것이 제가 여러분이 꼭 이해했으면 하는 점입니다. 학습의 단계는 여러분과 반려견을 연결해 줍니다. 즉, 학습의 아주 초기 단계에서부터 여러분은 연결되는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 강아지는 '잠깐만, 이걸 하면 뭔가 멋진 일이 생기잖아'라고 느끼게 되니까요. 그다음 우리가 할 일은 환경을 통제하는 것입니다. 저는 강아지에게... 그러니까 제 집이 넓긴 하지만, 집 전체를 다 돌아다니게 두지는 않았습니다. 정확히 몇 평인지는 모르겠지만, 집 전체를 자유롭게 누비도록 하지는 않았어요. 활동 범위를 제한했기 때문에 강아지의 선택지는 '나와 상호작용하기' 아니면 '환경과 상호작용하기'가 됩니다. 그런데 환경이 지루하면, 강아지는 여러분과 상호작용하게 될 겁니다. 그게 바로 강아지나 반려견이 성공할 수 있는 환경을 만들어주는 방법입니다. 알겠죠? 우리는 강아지에게 지식을 선물하고, 선택할 수 있는 자유를 선물합니다. 강아지에게 자율성을 주는 거죠. 이 게임을 해보라고 하는 건 정말 재미있을 거고, 그 결과도 아주 만족스러울 것이기 때문입니다. 반려견이 100% 식탐이 있든, 아니면 100% 장난감에만 관심이 있든 상관없습니다. 우리는 둘 다 좋아하도록 훈련합니다. 장난감을 좋아하는 개와 간식을 좋아하는 개 모두 똑같이 사랑하며, 계속 상황을 지켜보면서 조금씩 나아가는 거죠. 우리는 다음 단계의 훈련을 선물합니다. 하지만 매번 우리가 무언가를 줄 때마다 어떤 일이 일어나는지 아시나요? 그건 마치... 그것이 무엇인지... 그것은... 그것은 마치... 음... 음... 옛말에 받는 것보다 주는 것이 더 낫다고 하죠 우리가 줄 때 우리는 받고 있는 것입니다 그게 바로 진실입니다 우리가 개들에게 이러한 지식의 층위를 선물할 때
walking on the plank I actually shaped him to back his feet up his back feet to to the Target so these are the layers as a 10-week old puppy he maybe he maybe learned it no I didn't have him as a 10-week old puppy I am lying to you right now as an 11we old puppy he learned it's your choice maybe not right away maybe it was like as a 12we old puppy and then crate games taught him his release crate games also taught him cook means a food's coming to you and and then he veto thinking a these are the layers I just wanted to demonstrate whether you are curious about joining uh handling 360 because you want to do agility these are the things you're going to be doing with your dog or you're interested in joining recallers because you want a dog that's a a more well-rounded family pet that might lead you to an agility dog so these are the things that um this is how all of our programs work that puppy had some big big com complex behaviors to figure out did he ever look worried did he ever look like oh I can't I'm frantic I don't know what I'm doing did he he was he was all always just like oh what are we gonna do next this is fun what are we going to do next and so that's what layers of learning and that's what I really want you guys to understand so layers of learning connect you and your dog which means the very beginning layers of learning you're connected because he's like wait a minute if I do this I get something really cool and then what we do is we control the environment we didn't I didn't give the puppy I mean I've got a big house here I didn't give him access to you know all whatever how many square feet this house is I didn't get him access to the whole place he had a limited access so that his his um choices are are you know interact with me interact with your environment but the environment is boring they're going to interact with you that's what um that's what setting a puppy up or a dog up for a success looks like all right so we gift the puppy knowledge we gift the puppy freedom to choose give them we give them the autonomy to you can play this game because it's going to be awesome and you're going to love the outcome regardless if your dog is 100% food motivated or 100% toy motivated we work on it so we have both equal love a dog who loves toys and a dog who loves food and we we just keep you know seeing what we've got and moving the needle we gift them with the next level of training but guess what happens every time we gift you know it it's like um the old saying is better to give than to receive when we're giving we are receiving that's the truth as we gift our dogs with these layers of knowledge

그들이 점점 더 우리 삶 속에서 성공적으로 적응할 수 있게 되면 실제로 우리 삶에 아주 잘 어우러지는 강아지를 갖게 됩니다 그저 산에서 하이킹을 함께할 개를 원하든 저는 어떤 스포츠를 하고 싶다는 환상은 없어요 수잔 하지만 한번 상상해 보세요 산책 중에 온통 유혹 거리가 가득한 상황에서도 21주 된 제 강아지에게 앉으라고 했을 때 강아지가 '오 알겠어요'라고 반응한다면 어떨까요 그런 식의 반응을 보일 수 있다면 말이죠 사람들은 그걸 통제라고 부를지 모르지만 저는 통제라고 부르지 않고 동의라고 부릅니다 그건 강아지가 제가 요청하는 걸 스스로 하고 싶어 한다는 뜻이니까요 그리고 그건 제가 강아지에게 준 선물이고 강아지가 다시 저에게 돌려주는 것이기도 합니다 그게 바로 반려견 훈련의 핵심입니다 그러니 이제 이해가 좀 되시나요? 반려견 훈련은 우리가 일방적으로 하는 것이 아니라 함께 만들어가는 과정이라는 것을요 우리가 주는 선물은 다시 우리에게 돌아오고 강아지의 반응은 우리가 무엇을 가르쳤는지를 보여줍니다 왜냐하면 우리가 가르쳤다고 생각하는 것이 실제로 가르친 것이 아닐 수도 있기 때문이죠 우리가 가르친 것은 강아지가 우리에게 보여주는 모습 그 자체입니다 그래서 아마 제 개는 어쩌면 부엌에 있을 때는 부름에 응할 수 있지만 뒷마당에서 구멍을 파고 있을 때는 부름에 오지 못할 수도 있습니다 그것들은 각각 다른 층위의 문제입니다 그것들은 각각 다른 층위입니다 당신이 아직 이해시키지 못한 다양한 선행 조건의 배치들이 있죠. 그래서 어제 제 강아지와 함께 산책을 나갔는데, 음, 테이터 샐러드, 스웨거, 모멘텀과 함께 28에이커나 되는 들판에서 산책을 했어요. 가끔씩 제가 목줄을 풀어주고 테스트를 하거든요. 강아지를 쫓아다니고 있을 때 불렀을 때 오는지, 냄새를 맡고 있을 때 불렀을 때 오는지, 곧 구르려고 할 때 불렀을 때 오는지 말이에요. 놀랍게도 어제 콜백 성공률이 100%였어요. 이런 일은 전에는 한 번도 없었죠. 다른 개들과 뛰어놀며 정신없을 때도 100% 성공률로 단 한 번도 빠짐없이 돌아왔어요. 이건 제가 요청하는 것 외에는 딱히 할 게 없는 작은 방을 정리하는 것과는 달라요. 밖에는 토끼 냄새도 있고, 뒹굴 수 있는 아주 맛있는 사슴 똥도 있고, 다른 개들을 쫓거나 하는 재미있는 일들이 아주 많잖아요. 그럼 어떻게 그렇게 할 수 있었을까요? 그건 리콜러 게임을 거의 다 끝냈기 때문이에요. 제 생각엔 리콜러 게임 과정을 다 마친 것 같고, 프렙 스쿨도 다 마쳤고, 핸들링 360도 거의 다 마쳤어요. 뭐 점프 같은 건 아직 하지 않았지만, 핸들링 360의 기초 단계까지는 많은 부분을 마쳤죠. 덕분에 저는 정말 멋진 반려견을 얻게 되었어요. 자, 그 다양한 상황들이 당신이 아직 이해시키지 못한 콜백의 개념들이죠. 그래서 저와 제 강아지는 함께 산책을 나갔습니다. 정말 평생 더 이상의 훈련은 필요 없을 거예요. 남은 평생 훈련을 할 필요 없이 그저 제가 만들어 놓은 행동들을
that they can come become more and more successful in our life then we actually have a puppy that fits into our life so much more whether you just want a dog to go hiking in the mountains I don't have any any uh visions of wanting to play a sport Susan but imagine if you have a dog that in the middle of work where there are bows all over my 21 week old puppy when I said sit he was like oh okay imagine if you had that kind of response it isn't you know people could call it control I don't call it control I call it buyin that is a puppy who wants to do what I'm asking him to do and and that's a gift that I gave to him that he's giving back to me and that's what dog training is all about and so does this make sense to you that dog training isn't something we do at it's something we do together it's a gift that we give that comes right back to us and that the dogs responses are sharing with us what we taught them because what we think we taught them isn't what we taught them what we taught them is what our dog shows us so maybe my dog can um someone he's called when he's when I'm in the kitchen but he can't come in the call in the backyard when he's digging a hole those are different layers different antecedent Arrangements that you haven't built into the understanding of come when you're called so with my puppy yesterday we were out walking with um tater salad Swagger momentum and this out walking in the field 28 acres and I I took him off leash every once in a while we take him off leash and we test when you're running after a dog will you come when you're called when you're sniffing when you're about to roll will you come when you call guess what 100% success on my recalls yesterday that has never happened to me before 100% success out with the other dogs romping ripping he came back every single time it's not the same as arranging a little room where he's going to do what I ask him because there's not much else to do he there's there's smells of bunnies out there there's really good deer poop you can roll in there's all there's chasing the dogs or the biggie right so how do we get there we get there through like um Propet is almost all the way through I think he is all the way through his recaller games and he's got a and he's all the way through um flat or all the way through prep school and in highlength 360 mostly most of the way through well he he hasn't done anything with jumps or anything but a lot of the way through um the beginning of handling 360 I've got an amazing family pet I really wouldn't have to do any more training for the rest of his life I just would have to maintain those behaviors

제 개는 제가 손을 펼치면 이해합니다. 개들이 그것을 훔치려 하면 손이 닫힌다는 것을요. 그리고 그들은 '쿡(cook)'이라는 단어가 제가 간식을 준다는 뜻임을 이해하고, '서치(search)'가 찾으러 가라는 뜻임을 이해합니다. 하지만 그들은 여전히 조리대에서 음식을 훔치려 합니다. 그렇다면 이것과 조리대 위의 음식 사이에는 무엇이 다를까요? 그 사이에는 간극을 만드는 여러 층이 존재합니다. 그 빠진 층들은 바로 이러한 이해를 모든 상황으로 전이시키는 연결 고리입니다. 대부분의 경우 우리는 그러한 전이를 해주는 게임을 가지고 있지만, 어떤 개들은 더 많은 단계가 필요할지 모릅니다. 어떤 개들은 더 큰 도약을 할 수 있지만, 만약 우리 수강생 중 한 명이 ‘자, 제가 해온 단계는 이렇습니다. 하지만 여전히 이런 문제가 발생해요’라고 말한다면, 우리는 그들을 위한 중간 단계들을 제안할 것입니다. 맞아요, 결국 중요한 것은 다시 한번 말하지만 배치입니다. 무엇이 무엇을 만들어내는지, 무엇이 개에게 그 행동을 하고 싶게 만드는 자극인지, 지금은 어떤지, 그리고 우리가 진정으로 원하는 곳은 어디인지 말이죠. 그리고 제대로 이해하게 하려면 어디서든 가능해야 합니다. 그래서 우리가 욕실에서 놀라고 하는 것입니다. 욕실, 거실, 위층, 아래층, 앞마당, 뒷마당, 문을 나서는 문턱에서 게임을 하라고 하는 거죠. 왜냐하면 많은 경우 실내에서는 줄을 팽팽하지 않게 잘 산책하다가도 막상 바깥 공기를 맡으면 아, 상황이 완전히 달라지죠. 전 집에서는 바깥 공기를 못 맡으니까요. 그래서 우리가 원하는 결과를 얻으려면 단계가 필요합니다. 자, 그럼 저희 페이스북 페이지에 공유해 달라는 말씀 다시 드립니다. 내일 저희가 리콜러를 '젬(Gem)' 우승자분께 선물로 드릴 예정입니다. 그러니 저희 페이스북 페이지에서 젬 게시물을 확인해 주세요. 혹은 페이스북을 이용하지 않으시면 유튜브로 오셔서 여러분의 소중한 젬이 무엇인지 작성해 주세요. 그리고 리콜러 선물이 어떻게 여러분과 반려견의 삶에 변화를 가져올지 듣고 싶습니다. 그게 제가 정말 궁금한 점이에요. 그리고 저희가 또한 홈스쿨 더 도그 프로그램도 선물로 드릴 건데요. 이 커피 컵들이 정말 마음에 드네요. 진짜 놀라워요. 커피를 내내 따뜻하게 유지해주거든요. 뭐, 영원히는 아니더라도 저에게는 하루 종일 따뜻하더라고요. 내일 오후 4시에 이 상품들을 증정할 예정입니다. 그동안 저희 프로그램을 dog.com에서 확인해 보시고, 질문이 있으시면 알려주세요. 왜냐하면 사이버 이벤트가 내일 자정에 끝나기 때문이죠. 좋습니다. 모두 감사합니다. 내일 오후 4시에 뵙겠습니다.
so my dog understands I open the hand and if you try to steal it closes do and they also understand the word cook means I'm delivering they understand search means you're going to go find it but they still try to steal food from the counter well what's different about this and F on the counter and there's layers in between that that creates a gap those layers that are missing are the connecting points that have that understanding be be transferred to everything and most of the time we have games that do that transferring for you but some dogs maybe need more layers that like some dogs can make bigger leaps and and if one of our students says well listen here's the steps I've made um but I'm still getting this we will we will suggest some intermediate steps for them right it's all about again an Arrangements is what what is creating what is the stimulus creating or the stimulate creating the dog's desire to do the behavior Now versus where we really want it and in order to get understanding it's got to be everywhere so that's why we say play in the bathroom play the games in the bathroom in the living room the upstairs down stairs in the front yard in the backyard on the threshold of going out the door because a lot of times we've got beautiful leash loose leash walking in the house as soon as they smell fresh air oh that is a different an aedan arrangement I don't smell fresh air in the house so there's there there's steps that we need to take to get what we want okay so I'm going to R remind you share over on our Facebook page and tomorrow we go we are going to be gifting recallers to the the um gem winner or so so look on our Facebook page for the gem post or if you don't have access to Facebook come on over to uh YouTube and and we'll just write what your big gem there and why the gift of recallers would make a different in difference in the life of you and your dog that's what I really want to hear okay and and we're going to get we're going to also gift homeschool the dog and I love these these these coffee cups are amazing just saying keep the coffee C uh warm forever all right maybe not forever but all day long for for me we're giving that away tomorrow at 4 pm in the meantime please check out our programs on dog.com cyber let me know if you have any questions um because the Cyber event ends tomorrow at midnight alrighty thank you everybody we'll see you tomorrow at 4
