How's Panama? I haven't been in Panama also for a very long time. That virus thing, man, it's just killing everybody. Hopefully it's over soon and we can start traveling and meet and do fun things again. But again, as far as the podcast, it's going to come out. It's going to be soon and it's going to be nice. The main thing that I really want to get out right now, that I'm so excited about, is the competition healing part two. Just because it's really like the way we filmed and everything and the kind of dogs that we had. Obviously it wasn't just Malinois. We had a really cool five-month-old Busseron. We had a super kick-ass Doberman. Of course they were Malinois, I'm not going to lie to you. But just a really, really cool group of people and dogs. Venezuela. Ecuador, Melissa, how are you? Man, everybody from everywhere. What else? Let's see. What else I can give you as far as news? We have... What is everybody drinking? Anything? I have some water. But Wayne, don't even write anything because I know what you're going to write. It's not that. Kristina, how are you? Yeah, the... I mean, again, I know you guys, a lot of you, we decided to do the healing workshop pretty much last minute. Simply because it was time to make the video. Like that video is way overdue. And then, you know. No, it's not IPA. It's not wine. Yeah, it's some tequila mix. What? I'm not going to lie to you. Tequila is good. Wine is fine. Beer is fine. But sometimes it's just tequila time. But remember the few weeks ago, there was a... Eric took a picture of me at the Nationals with ice, with his prong collar as a necklace. So, that ended up being this big hit of, you know, so many people were all over, shared like thousands of times. And I promise that I'm going to talk about it and explain what's going on. Because, you know, like there were some groups strictly designed, founded on this. Like the one was a... What was it called? It's a prong collar, not a fucking necklace. Which makes sense. And it's one of those things that when people don't know enough. They just know enough, but not enough. You know what I'm saying? So, it's okay. So, I was going to make like a big video trying to give some education. One of the modules during the course. I mean, we have a whole module.

There's just strictly on training equipment besides the collar. But, I just never have time to get to it. So, maybe I'll just talk to you a little bit and somebody will share this. Or, somebody will explain elsewhere. I'm sure it's going to come out. But, why would somebody have a prong collar and will wear it so low? So, I personally don't like to wear, to put a dog, to wear the collar so tight. Right behind the ears and the chin here. And the reason I don't like that is because it's very much of a... The mental pressure on the dog is a whole different level. It's pretty much like somebody's holding a gun to your head and you're walking on the street like that. You know, you don't feel free. You feel suppressed constantly. It's not different than wearing a healthy, a gentle leader. You know, the muscle is always like this. The prong collar is always here. It's tight. It's ready to shoot. There is no need for that. Normally, what we like to do is... That's why the prong collar... And I don't have one. I probably should have brought one. But, everybody knows what prong collar is. Right? So, you have the classic prong collar that has the chain that goes around that tightens and releases. And that's the whole function. That's the whole beautiful idea of the prong collar is that it can stay loose. And when it's needed, it can do what it needs to do and then go back to stay loose. That's the whole idea for the dog to feel completely free, not to worry what's going to happen the next moment. But, at the same time, to have consequences if they're needed. Now, I will tell you there is many reasons why we would put a really big prong collar on the dog. But, first of all, the reason I had a prong collar on ice at the competition. I just wanted to go and see what's happening and who's showing and he was with me. So, I just put whatever collar I had. And it could have been a fur saver if I had a halty or a gentle litter or a no-pull harness. No, that's kidding. I wouldn't do that to him. But, you know, I just put a prong collar without having to size it. He's not pulling. He doesn't need nothing. Freaking dog listens to me. And there is zero concerns. But, let's say we do protection training. One of the ways to create nice bark and halt, to teach the dog to bark properly, is to put the dog on a prong collar. And you put it on a dead ring. So, it doesn't really tighten. And what it really does is, it allows the dog to get air. So, it can actually bark. Instead of going, ah, ah, ah. You know, it can really bark. That's one really good reason to wear a prong collar that's a little bit bigger.

And we actually even go with the, even on a fairly medium average size dogs, we would put like the biggest prong collar. Because the idea really is to just kind of stop, but allow circulation, and allow the dog to do his job. It's not a, there is really nothing, you know. There is many reasons why we would do prong collars. Another reason is, if the dog is really pulling, when we do protection, on a different collar, even a harness, they can pass out. It's just, it will stop, just like how you would do a choke. You know, it just stops the circulation, blood, air. You go out. And there is, it's quite often in the past, you will see a dog that's just going, going at the end of the line. And next thing you know, it's getting dizzy. This is not going to happen with a prong collar. But, if you have a prong collar that is tight like this, and it's just like, you know, then the dog's not going to feel free enough to show any kind of, you know, dominance. Because he's suppressed. So, again, there is like, I can go on and on about different reasons why would you wear a prong collar in a different situation, different size of collar, and different places where you would put the collar on. If I have a dog that I need this ultimate control for the next five minutes, yeah, I probably will take some links out, and I will put it as high as I would need. But the objective as a dog trainer is really not to use whatever collars, whatever equipment you're using. The idea is to use it and eventually get out of it. So, you don't have to use it to that extent. So, it's not like this all the time for the rest of his life. This is absolutely wrong. You know? Like, and even when you're talking safety of the dog, when you have the collar here versus having the collar here, that would be far more damaging. That's why it's so much more effective to a dog because the aversion, the uncomfort level, is much higher than if it's here. But once you get control of your dog, your goal, your objective as a trainer is to be able to teach what you need to teach, solve what you need to solve, so you don't need to resort constantly to equipment. This is the whole idea. That's the whole purpose of collars. So, anytime I see dogs walking on the street with a pointed gun, it kind of breaks my heart. And, you know, that's what I'm saying. There is like a, some, some, especially young trainers, and I don't want to say necessarily young trainers, but beginner trainers, they feel that they know, but they just don't know enough. And then we try to make a point, and then it gets really, really weird. Oh, and then there was the other thing about, I had a, I mean,

I must have completely blown their minds off because I had a prone collar as a fucking necklace, and I had a flexi-lead, a retractable, which I absolutely love. There is absolutely one of the best equipment in dog training. It's the retractable leash. Now, I cannot really give you all the reasons why prone collar, and why loose, and why retractable leash instead of something else. But, I mean, again, if you really want to know what I do, I have courses, I have workshops, I have all sorts of ways that you can learn how I think and what I do. One, I'll give you one, really brief one, to where you get the idea, at least. When you work with a flexi, let's say you have a dog that's not friendly with people, or dog that's shy, unsure. What a flexi does is allows the dog to step out as far as it needs to step out to feel comfortable and safe to observe the situation. When you have the dog that it's unsure, it might try to go away, it might try to go forward. It doesn't matter which way it's going to go, but it's uncomfortable. Trying to force him or trying to have people, this is another one, oh, ignore him and then everybody is like this. I mean, how can, what more weird can a dog that's already weirded out, what else can you present them than two or three people just like this and not ever making eye contact or saying a word. I mean, that's just the worst thing you can think of. If the dog needs to come away, step back, flexi allows him to step back to the distance that it's comfortable for the dog to deal with the situation, explore and observe. Observe is a critical point when we're dealing with especially dogs that are unsure. Flexi also allows as the dog backs off for the trainer to go forward and show to the dog that they don't mind interacting with the person or with the other dog or the fire hunter, hydrant, whatever that little dog is all freaked out about. One of the best ways to deal with that is to show the dog that you as a trainer or owner are not afraid or have no animosity or you're not unsure, you feel very happy and comfortable interacting with that person or dog or object as your dog is staying far out, being safe and observes. These are simple things that, you know, and sure, you can use a long line, but when you use a long line, you're going to have to do all this shit. Make it longer, make it shorter, make it longer, make it shorter. No, you, Flexi is not good for a dog that doesn't, you know, I mean, if you end up with a dog that's acting like a fish on a hook and you're doing this, yeah, that there is no point of that, but that's not the, that's not what's about. Nobody agrees with that, but I can, I can really talk to you about Flexi forever, the benefits of it. So, anyway, that was just

an interesting side kind of note about that post with the prone colors and same thing, you know, like, people think, oh, electric color, it has to be so tight, it has to make contact, it has to, no, it doesn't, it really doesn't. What is the purpose of having the color so tight to where the dog can hardly breathe or say anything, you know, just so you can use the lowest level possible. Well, if the color is a little looser, you're going to end up using a little bit higher level, but it's going to feel far more comfortable to the dog. Again, you, for those trainers that, you know, were worried about the flexi and the fucking necklace, there is really so much more to consider and think about. Again, I, I don't need to have a leash or a collar on my dog if I take him on a walk. I got a little excited talking about this because it's just, I've been meaning to do this, but there is always something else to do. Carrie, how are you? Yeah, flexis all the time. Yeah, I mean, it's not, just like any tool, you know, it's not for every moment in time and you can use it when it's time and you can use something else when it's not, you know, like, just, just like a screwdriver or a Phillips or a knife. They're all going to work, but there's going to be one that's going to work better than the other in a certain situation, you know. It's crazy. Yeah, Jennifer, it's not a fucking necklace. I don't know how this post, like, what the hell happened? I mean, what is interesting is that I found out that there is a whole new generation of dog trainers that are, you know, they actually think they're doing the right thing and they want to do the right thing. I don't think any of them have these bad intentions, but, you know, it's kind of like that Neil deGrasse say, the quote that I love. Ice, go away. Dude, what are you doing? Pushing me here. I'm talking. You need a necklace. Now, I lost my thought. Anyway, let's see. What are you guys saying? I haven't checked messages. Wow, wow, wow. Cheers. But, no, it's good that, I mean, I guess social media and Facebook, especially Instagram, it's just, it's really picking up momentum and the more somebody interacts and the more it types, the more credible it starts to sound and the more followers you get and there's just this crazy momentum of things and nobody for some reason stops and uses a little bit of lodging. It's like, well, who am I following? But, I guess that's how it goes for right now. It's going to be like that.

Right, right, exactly. Jennifer's right. It's that they are not the ad-doct trainers. They're, I don't even, I cannot even say that, Jennifer. train, train, train, rats. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's exactly like that. I mean, I don't blame them. Amanda, of course, the killer, right? We need to do this again. It's time that you come to Florida. I know we've been talking about it. but, it's, you know, the one saying, I say it all the time, the level of competence, you know, like in the beginning of everything, being dog trainer, being whatever you are, you always start with being unconsciously incompetent, which means you don't know that you don't know, right? And when you don't know that you don't know, it's a really exciting place. It's really cool because you can be whatever you want, whatever your imagination, you can be the world champion of anything. I mean, you can be the best of the best of the best just because you don't know that you don't know. And then eventually what happens very soon after, if you stick with it, you become consciously incompetent. And from that la-la land, all of a sudden you just drop way down, realizing that you really don't know. And all your dreams and everything starts to crumble. It's like, well, can I do that? Can anybody help me? So, then you get to that consciously incompetent stage, which is really the worst comparing to not knowing that you don't know. Eventually, if you still stick with it, you end up being consciously competent, which is a tricky stage because you kind of you know that you can do, you know that you can function, but at the same time it takes every moment of your concentration and effort, which is very hard. So, it puts a lot of pressure on the trainer. And, of course, the last one is being unconsciously competent. This is when you end up, you know, training dogs and texting at the same time and having all sorts of conversation and being able to function because you can do without having to put the effort and thinking in it. There is one after that which is where it becomes really an art and you really start to break up all the rules that you followed so far because now you can. The reason I'm telling you that story, actually, the competence thing is and you can Google it. It's, you know, it's very easy. But, the reason I was starting to tell you this is because I believe that the people with the prone collar that got so hot about what my dog was wearing is when you're in that stage between being unconsciously incompetent and consciously incompetent and now you're at the place where you're starting to know. You're starting to reach that level of consciously competent but you're not quite there yet. So, now, every little thing that you have heard and every little thing that you seem like everybody else has accepted as the norm,

you don't see that there can be any variations or any other options and actually, all you're trying to do is jump in in any conversation in any debate and say what everybody else is saying without putting any thought in it. And eventually, hopefully, you stick with it and you grow out of it and you learn. I don't know, who knows, maybe one day I will make some videos strictly on the brown collar stuff. but it was interesting. Hold on, let me read some. Well, yeah, I mean, they probably are, but I mean, we have to be, I don't know, we have to be nice to the new generation. I mean, the best thing we can do is educate, even though, again, I think all the comments that they make and everything that they do is just to show off that they know and they're excited and hopefully, you know, all of us that know better can guide them into evolving into a better trainers and knowing more and being able to be, you know, what we get to be. Eric, we just have to keep growing the TWC community. Yes, I mean, we're doing that. No question, we're doing that. As I said, we have the graduation this weekend and the new class starts in February. Super excited. Super, super excited about that. Just completely, I don't know, anyone that has any interest about my course, talk to me, send me a message, I will explain to you what you're going to expect to learn. Because what you will learn is different than what you know. I promise you that. And it's going to be exciting. But anyway, let's see what else. When you try to educate the balance method abuse. Yeah, I mean, this is Stephanie, there is a, you know, to be honest about this, there are so many trainers that are horrible, like really horrible, and they call themselves balanced trainers, and they do believe that they are balanced trainers. And actually, when I think about it now, they really are balanced trainers, but they suck at it. you know, just because you can use a version and you can use some form of positive reinforcement or rewards, that automatically makes you a balanced trainer. But as being a balanced trainer, you can suck big time, you know, because yeah, I mean, it's clearly you get my point. Tracy, what do you mean I have the patience of a saint? I learned that I didn't have patience. Man, if I tell you some stories of back, way back in time, when I used to live in California, I had

all these ideas that everybody is going to be just as good as I am and everybody is going to win championships and everybody is going to and people just wanted to have fun with their dogs. I mean, I would actually bring people to tears of just putting so much pressure on them. And then with time you learn, you definitely adapt and you know what to teach and what is important and everybody has their different interests so you have to as a trainer provide what the people want to learn and have fun. It's just having fun and enjoy the training. It's so important. It's not about not everybody wants to do what I do. what I do is freaking insane. I mean competing for so many years winning so many championships. mean you look at for example the last two competitions that I did. I didn't do so well. And of course I have plenty of reasons why and most of you know I don't need to go in that detail but you know that was a good lesson for me when my mind is not into it and I don't care I should not be competing. Having said that I cannot wait to go back in competition because I'm so ready now. It's kind of crazy talking all by myself. wish that this is more of a like some Zoom call or something so we can talk but let me check some messages and see what are saying. Melissa what I think is that social media focuses on showing off as you say but maybe they cannot do what they preach and it is okay. Right so that's that's the this is the one of the things that really amazes me about the social media because people are I don't I really this this this this this gonna be something that's gonna be studied and and explored in the future years for sure about how our mind works because just just the fact that we we are so prone to follow somebody so blindly that we clearly know that that person that we are following if we just stop for a moment and we look at even even credential accomplishments anything besides the marketing side of things we see that there is nothing there is no base but everybody seems to go in and it's a phenomenon that just absolutely amazes me it is hard to you know like when you when you want to when you want to prove something it's kind of why I compete you know I don't compete I mean I compete for many reasons obviously I'm competitive but one of the probably the biggest reasons I compete is to test what I preach you know like I come up with some ideas about how dogs learn how dogs maintain learning and performance and how that matches to everybody else's so when you do that you kind of want to test it out you don't want to just sit beside a keyboard and talk nonsense

yeah what else you guys want to talk Julie how are you David I see you building that freaking house in the freezing snow in Montana I mean the scenery is amazing like really amazing but man man I don't know how you do this like I don't mind snow but I would go snow boarding I do any of the snow sports and that's about it there is no way you can convince me to build a house but anyway it looks really good and I also kind of keep paying attention to your training and it's kind of cool you're moving along so hopefully I see you next time man Giovanni who is the second best trainer in the world who what a hot question smart smart there is no such thing man like I don't know if anybody thinks this way it's not the right way to think because it comes down to so many factors too I will tell you something like for example you will have an amazing top level trainer that has an average dog or a dog that is injured and obviously has certain limitations but that trainer also has different ethics and it's not just me me me he actually enjoys their dog and wants to do the training and maximize what they can do with that dog and I see a lot of top level trainers that it just so happens and it's unfortunate but it just really so happens that they're stuck with a dog that kind of puts them in that category and it's not possible to grow and they're okay with that and that's really cool I think I absolutely admire that because after all that's their dog they have it from a puppy they're in perfect relationship they love each other and they do the best they can I personally don't like the trainers that change dogs like napkins to find that magic superman I don't think it's right for the dogs that they're going through and yeah like when I tell you about I know I mean I'm sure most of you know but people that don't hear me talking too often I have pretty much all of the dogs that I compete with they came back to me for some reason I don't want to give you that whole wind up of stories but all of them came back because of some reason like the ice right now the dog that I compete with I saw them as a monduring dog as a puppy he ended up chasing cars then he came back to me I corrected that he went back home they couldn't maintain it he came back again for them second time it lasted for another two months and then they're like he's still starting to go after cars I'm like okay it's not gonna work just let me have the dog and that's what happened there's always there's different

levels plus it depends how you want to train when we talk about all positive trainers or force free trainers and you can say well this trainer has done mondio and has done really well in IPO and so on and it's great if that's the goal how far they can go using a certain style of training that's great so it's a very tricky question there is no you know like the people that train and stay in the dog sports for longer than five years you get to understand how it works and you get a whole different level of appreciation of winning one national championship or even one world championship versus staying consistently in the top level of competition and staying consistently in the top level of competition doesn't really mean that you don't count that you were the team captain or you hold the flock in some championship that doesn't count it's good marketing but nobody cares when you kind of get to know what's up what else let's see who is the best dog trainer in the world Giovanni this is like asking who is the best fighter in the world there's just really no such thing like you cannot say like when you talk about fighters there is always somebody that's gonna beat him at a certain point in time it's just you know yeah Paul was here Michelle your training is immaculate how is it different from color so far I have had great success with that method yeah it's very different I mean it's really different from colors method and it's not really based on the version because obviously he's a big proponent on a version but one of the probably one of the biggest disadvantages of his method and of course you cannot blame the guy he did really really really really well for the time that he was training dogs right but if we are to judge him today on his training his biggest fallout is that he never accounted for the dog's intelligence he his whole training plans were based on the average dog he will give a recipe he will write a prescription it's like you do this for 10 days and then you're gonna do this of course it works for the most part but that's not how advanced training goes unless you can allow the dog to show you what they know and when they're ready so the training really is designed ideally to move with the dog's pace with the dog's speed of understanding things

all right let's see burning question could there be a unicorn malinois that would be suitable all the time of course of course there's I mean and again this is not just because I breed malinois or whatever but of course malinois are you know I mean you can have a shit load of nerve wrecks and and usually you know especially years ago that's that's the kind of dogs that Europeans were selling to the states but malinois are generally speaking quite sound dogs that are very good for being a service dog when they are not selected all the time strictly from being maniacs when something moves and they just cannot control themselves you know so there is individuals but you absolutely can have a like if you want a malinois as a service dog get in touch with me there's no that's easy no no question about that okay core is excited I don't know exactly what for but it's good excited it's good Michelle what do you think will be the biggest help to someone working with an under confident fear aggressive dog I'm a rescue volunteer with a very challenging foster it's a good question I love working with dogs like this yeah so but that's a huge topic and if you trust me Michelle and just go ahead and purchase the video that I have it's called chase and catch that probably will start to put you in the right direction of how to interact and how to open up a dog and how to make a dog get confident as much as they can because you you know like this is another downfall with with a lot of trainers I was going to say beginners but actually it's not just beginners there is a lot of trainers that believe that they can just change any dog with training and this is such a wrong assumption that leads to a lot of problems you know we can never never ever dismiss the genetic predisposition of a dog there is limitations and we sometimes need to find ways to work around and with it instead of being so stubborn hitting a wall trying to change it we can manipulate but we cannot change genetics you know so it really depends but I would suggest for for you know lack of confidence and fear and aggressive kind of dogs games chase and catch possession games these are like I would highly highly recommend those videos to you and you will not regret it I promise you Stephanie I just cannot offer 8 10 K right now yeah I understand this is you know that's that's just how it is like that I'm not saying that it's you know like compared to other school actually that's that's very reasonable and if you are I don't know I mean if you are training dogs probably that's two dogs or three dogs that you are going to train if you spread things

do that I would be from where I came and what I've done and what I've accomplished I'm super proud because I really started from like the bottom of the bottom and I had to do I mean I mean even the fact to just escape from Bulgaria when it was a communist country and I could get shot and killed on the border that was just an event on its own I don't have regrets of anything but I think I was just chasing accomplishments like I'm just this kind of you know an achiever a competitor and a lot of times you know you get so fixated and busy with it that you you don't appreciate what goes around you like the people and you know there's other things that are important so that's what I would have done differently if I had to go back in time I still would be as competitive but I would be a little bit more aware about the people I'm around and there is another thing like it took me a long time like really took me a long time to learn that not everybody is your friends that there is especially when you become a little bit more known and famous people want to hang out with you or not hang out with you just be around you and pretend and take advantage and I you know for years sounds like man these are friends these are friends he's friend she's friend and yeah that change that's you kind of learn you know there is a lot of stuff that you come unprepared for to deal with but Deb can you describe a little on your opinion of heel position as you teach it in your course so that's a good one so the heel position it's definitely like there will be the typical discussion is well if the dog is looking straight making eye contact they're going to be forging and that's not going to be good and I can and I show it in like in the course and in the video that's coming up that that's not the case the dog can absolutely stay in position and have eye contact but the more important part about the healing is in overall all of the training that I'm interested in is to allow the dog to show their own flavor to show their own personality instead of like there is the type of training that goes to where the trainer is preoccupied to mold the dog in exactly what they want him to be and I'm going to take food as an example but there's going to be food and there's going to be looting and they're going to make the head to stay in a certain way they're going to dictate how far the field is going to go up everything is orchestrated and final product is all dogs look like soldiers ! concern is my head in the right position am I moving my feet correctly am I doing everything that I am told to do when I teach a dog to heal I give the parameters it's like okay we're going to have eye contact you're going to

the ring sports french ring whatever they have overall attitude rating which is cool but it's very very minimum to where in IGP if the dog shows uncomfort and suppression it can get even disqualified if it's really bad so okay let's see what else man how long we've been talking you guys are crazy I don't even know it's been an hour and a half I'll just scroll down because I'm sorry I'm missing there's just too many all right Zach of course everything is well how is California hope to see you sometime again Barbara what is the best advice you would give to a new shoot hunt handler the best advice for a new shoot hunt trainer is to do a very good homework and pick a club and a coach that will treat you and your dog with respect and dignity but also not waste your time and guide you so you can flourish and accomplish and maximize your potential it sounds complicated but it's not it just really takes a little bit of research and a little bit of you know knowledge how to do but that that's that's the biggest thing sometimes new people in the sport they go into a club and the training director or the helper starts to do crazy stuff to their dog and they feel that is wrong but everybody else seems to be okay with it and you little by little start to accept that don't accept it if it feels wrong ask questions at least you may be wrong it may be just that it feels wrong but it's not but chances are if there is something that you don't feel comfortable there is probably a reason that you are feeling that way so at least do yourself a favor and ask questions and see if the answers make sense to you this kind of sports are very difficult people you know they are not like one of the big problems with the sport is to find people to train that think alike there is many trainers but sooner later there you start clashing with somebody and you know having a long term friends in the sport is a big deal so try to that's the main thing Barbara try to find the right people and that's not easy and at least I would say don't settle with who you have in your backyard if you're going to be serious with the sport and serious meaning not winning a national championship but serious in terms of really learning the sport and really maximizing your potential and your dog's potential find the right person and if that requires travel then travel because that's just part of the game there will be traveling there will be money spent there will be sacrifices and you're not going to be able to do other things that typically you do Cindy Sanchez wow wow how have you
